Adding on to your comment, I read a really interesting study recently that suggests that interacting with AI engages the social parts of our brains but does not provide the same stimuli/feedback as interacting with a real person leading to increased loneliness and thus increased alcohol abuse and insomnia.
Yeah that's the beauty of federation! If you don't like the team that runs one Lemmy instance, you can just find a different instance to use.
I honestly can't see any of my older family members ever using an AI chatbot, let alone finding it a somewhat passable supplement for lack of human interaction.
Depends on where you live!
Personally I wouldn't have a major problem with unobtrusive simple banner ads that are not at all personalised like what we had 15+ years ago, though I really prefer to just not see ads at all nowadays.
Not my cup of tea personally but that'd definitely be better for the creators and likely better for the customers too!
Yep! The idea behind federation is that there are a bunch of smaller instances that can all talk to each other rather than one big central authority like with Facebook or Reddit!
Wow what a shock, religious people using it as an excuse for their bigotry? Who could have ever guessed that this could happen!
