I'm aware of this and do this but its annoying when it could just open a new link away from Lemmy because so much of being on a lemmy instance for some reason involves me keeping Lemmy in one tab so I stay logged in... because if I leave... then I have to sign back in again.

I just grew as a person I guess. I'm not the same person I was 10 years ago and I'm sure I'll be different in the next 10 years if I'm still around.

I also cut a lot of people out of my life and cut a lot of certain interactions out of my life. Like for example, I got of 4chan in 2020. I use to be a troll - the kind of person OPs post is complaining about - and now I'm very against it. I always prefer to be honest online instead of just saying whatever to get a response.

I try to have more good faith discussions now instead of antagonizing people.

But I said I sounded like you 10 years ago cause I remember hanging out with people in person, at their houses and at parties and on the streets.. I felt like an observer. It felt like I knew a lot about other people cause I was always listening in.

What changed is that I stopped listening in on those people. Went out of my way to go meet other people instead. Now I'm not seeing those patterns I use to see among the previous groups I hung out in.

I have some faith in humanity but only because I sit around theorizing how to make things better. It's just a theory though. So I know its possible but to make it happen, would take the kind of work and time I don't have and I have no reach.

4 of those blower kerosene heaters. Blast those bastards until it’s just hot enough that it don’t melt your records and bam, problem solved.

Makes sense because that's how some places treat for bed bugs. The pest control place I worked at would partner with another company who did heat treatments on bed bugs for more intense invasions - think homeless shelters that are infested with them.

The issue with heat treatments is that in order to get it hot enough to kill them completely, you end up taking a lot of stuff out of the apartment/room.

I hated going over the lists with people on how to prep for bed bug treatments cause I had to basically ask them about everything in their home in case it would catch fire or just melt.

I hate "historical" building bullshit. I went to go stay in Seattle for a day and a half so I got a room for the night and then the hotel calls me to let me know it's a historical building so they don't have air conditioning.

This was the middle of August so of course I'm like, why did you call me to tell me this instead of listing it on your site you psychos? And the bitch bragged to me about working at a different hotel that charges $600 a room with NO air conditioning.

I couldn't cancel cause they didn't tell me until last minute either.

Right? Every now and then I find someone who remembers but most people don't remember the forums. I was super active on the forums there back in the day.

Why are we so shitty to each other indeed.

For whatever reason, people like to be better than others. It's something I've never understood and I always try my best to be humble because of it and don't really get off on being competitive like a lot of people do.

You sound like me 10 years ago.

damn do you remember Albino Black Sheep?

Those forums are how I eventually ended up on 4chan back in the day.

[–] cubedsteaks@lemmy.today 2 points 2 years ago

I started using 4chan around 2007/2008. It was always like that. It was the place to be if you were a toxic edgelord - a space to openly be a nazi and racist and homophobic.

I remember threads on /b/ back then too where people were looking for a new Hitler.

And they always had that shitty mentality. Be as contrarian as you can and as long as you can antagonize people into reacting, then you got one over on someone.

I haven't been on there since 2020 but I watched it get worse and worse over the years as it spread into the mainstream with things like Gamergate and the fappening. I even tried to tell people but they would just laugh it off cause "4chan"
