But ai is just regurgitated human knowledge. Often erouneous and fabricated.

How is that advancement?

I mean I guess it could lie and say a bunch of made up shit is true.

I guess also, that's already what tech bros do to get investments.

It's like this cycle of lies deception theft lies deception theft

I think season 2 dragged a bit in the middle but I remember liking how it wrapped up.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

I watched the first episode. Looking forward to the 2nd.

The reason for the cops being there and arresting him and taking him to the clinic seems weak but hoping that they explain that more later.

I also liked season 2 even though it was a different kind of vibe.

Not sure what to expect with 3. Cast looks good so far.

I'm definitely going to check this out.

To add to the recommendation. The first season of "the terror" is amazing.

Each season is a unique story. Season one is based off real life events where the British navy attempted to sail through the north pole. Or something like that.

And there is this ominous vibe through the whole thing with these small horrors that stack up. Culminating in a true terror.

And I don't want to spoil anything so I'm not going to say more. But. Wow. It was very good.

In my experience with men. They seem to often have a bit of hair on the lower back.

If this is standard.

Does that mean they shaved this guy's butt-boobs for the photo ?

People with dementia often have trouble with grooming habits. Like brushing teeth. Showering. Trimming nails. Wearing deodorant . Shaving. Etc.

They just forget.

Bet he's getting dental problems due to his dementia.

I don't think there has been any gun banning on printers. Only on 3d file host websites and that's all of them as far as I know.

And I'm pretty sure it would be impossible to ban a printer from printing a gun.

A gun would print in multiple components that could be almost anything from looking at one part at a time.

Yeah okay that all sounds familiar. I'm going to have to give it another read.

Now I'm thinking about this gestalt consciousness you mentioned. And I'm very curious how that is defined in the book.

I definitely don't remember.

100% agree.

Unfortunately I see people who are experts in their field being asked about their opinion in other topics all the time and people assume they know what they are talking about.

For instance. I'm finishing up my PhD in cognitive neuroscience.

Specifically I'm an expert in perception.

Now maybe having Msc and PhD behind my name leads people to think I'm somehow informed and an expert on all sorts of topics. But it doesn't.

Even within psychology I'm only an expert on topics near my area.

I don't know much about mental health or therapy, as an example.

Yet people ask me for mental health advice all the time. I literally know almost nothing about that.

Stephen Hawking was a renowned physicist. Should we have listened to his opinion about the over use of antibiotics ? Or what ages should different vaccinations be given. ?

Also people often conflate education with intelligence.

It's true they tend to be correlated. But having a PhD doesn't mean the person has an exceptional level of intelligence.

Even so, intelligent people are prone to bias and blindspots. They aren't immune from those things.

"Star Trip" 1967

AI

Maybe I missed an episode or something but I don't think I've ever seen any replicators except food ones.

How quickly we accepted that it's normal to pay someone to go get our groceries for us. To drive us around when public transportation is available. To run errands for us. To bring us fast food.

Covid capitalized on it.

People don't want to give up that luxury now that they've had it. Even if it makes things cost 2x-3x as much.

Even when we all know its exploitive labor.

It's true delivery and driver services have been around for hundreds of years but now instead of companies with full time employees (with benefits) , the gig employee gets paid less while taking on risk that aren't compensated by the employer (car accidents, gas, car repairs, injury or attacks).

Gig work is a much worse thing than maybe a lot of people realize. And it's also making more people servants to others.

It's moving full time employees with benefits and using company property to no benefits and using their own property that they have to pay for.

Iran reports destroying US aircraft during failed rescue operation, while Washington says pilot was successfully retrieved in complex mission. Key Developments Iran says US rescue mission failed, multiple aircraft destroyed near Isfahan. US officials say missing F-15 crew member was successfully recovered. Conflicting accounts emerge over scale and outcome of rescue operation. Iran Claims Rescue Operation Was Thwarted Iranian Armed Forces said on Sunday that they had foiled a US attempt to rescue a downed pilot, destroying multiple aircraft south of Isfahan in central Iran, according to Tasnim news agency.

A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the operation targeted US aircraft involved in an infiltration mission to extract a pilot whose fighter jet had been shot down earlier.

The spokesperson said Iranian forces—including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the army, Basij units, and law enforcement—carried out a coordinated response that resulted in the destruction of several aircraft, including two Black Hawk helicopters and a C-130 military transport plane.

The statement described the outcome as a “failure” for the United States, drawing comparisons to the 1980 Operation Eagle Claw.

The IRGC added that its air defenses also shot down an MQ-9 drone over Isfahan, adding that four similar drones had been downed in the province over the past five days.

Iranian military officials said the total number of drones downed since the start of the war has reached 162, reflecting what they described as growing control over national airspace.

Tasnim also reported that US forces had carried out strikes in Kohgiluyeh province after failing to locate the missing pilot.

Iranian authorities called on civilians to assist in locating the pilot, who they said remained missing.

US Says Pilot Rescued in Large-Scale Operation In contrast, US officials told CBS News that the missing crew member from the downed F-15E fighter jet was successfully rescued early Sunday.

According to CBS, the operation involved dozens of aircraft and special operations forces, who located the pilot using a tracking beacon.

US President Donald Trump claimed on his Truth social account that the crew member had been retrieved in “one of the most daring” operations conducted by US forces.

US officials said the pilot sustained injuries but was in stable condition.

They added that during earlier rescue attempts, a US helicopter came under fire, injuring some crew members, while an A-10 aircraft involved in the mission was also hit, forcing the pilot to eject before being recovered.

Pretty sure we are the only animals with pink rings around our mouth. It's flipping weird.

It probably helps with verbal language understanding as humans often use mouth movements to interpret words (see McGurk effect). But I still think it's weird.

Big pink rings.

Actually I have zero ideas as to the statement being made with this potato on a stick/staff with a condom on it. Does anyone know?
