Hmm. Yeah. That is exactly what would happen.

Though the possible advantage of that is the bargaining power of the cinemas increases compared to the distributors... as if cinemas should have some form of union ;-)

If enough of them die, then that particular market will need to correct. The movie industry needs consumers.

Or, to put it another way, the current business models need to die, so they can be replaced with better models.

Standalone cinemas are still the norm in NZ.

The odd one is part of a larger entertainment complex.

That sounds like the invisible hand of the market weeding out failing competitors.

Cinemas made all their money on tickets before TV.

Then TV came along, then ridiculously predatory movie distribution contracts, then the Internet.

Their response? Apparently. Using the police to enforce their terms of service regarding food sales.

What's next; calling the police when you don't watch the advertisements?

Cinemas: our business model sucks so much we have to sell overpriced food!

So? Just die already. Bye.

IMHO Villeneuve has made two damn near perfect Dune films so far, roll on the next.

People get hung up on deviations from the books. Duh, it's a different medium. That's like complaining that a painting of a sculpture doesn't capture the far side of the sculpture.

GEoD is my personal favourite too.

There's just something about how much weirder it is.

My absolute favourite bit is when Leto is surprised by Duncan's lasgun. Of course a prescient being would love surprises.

I'm afraid that cancer may have already metastasized.

That scene was the singular best piece of television in history.

May be with the Galactica jumping into and ramming the Cylon colony later on a close second.

I can weather the weaker parts of a story for the stong parts to shine beside. It's all good.
