But this is SOO tedious. The annoying bit is it could just be one person who set it up over a weekend, has a script that they plug into when wanting to be a troll, and now all admins/mods have to do more work.

You're fighting the good fight! So annoying that folks are doing it on freaking lemmy.

No, it's presenting as the "primary" solution, which it is.

So start by throwing money at the problem, then see what's left.

Research seems to show that a lot of people just need a small step up to get back on track.

So you basically just did the meme.

Oh yeah some even let you play in browser now. Crazy how it takes seconds, and most peoples phones can even play most everything game cube and earlier.

My two are:

Making sourdough. I personally always heard like this weird almost mysticism around making it. But I bought a $7 starter from a bakery store, and using just stuff in my kitchen and cheap bread flour I've been eating fresh sourdough every day and been super happy with it. Some loafs aren't super consistent because I don't have like temperature controlled box or anything. But they've all been tasty.

Drawing. I'm by no means an artist, but I always felt like people who were good at drawing were like on a different level. But I buckled down and every day for a month I tried drawing my favorite anime character following an online guide. So just 30 minutes every day. The first one was so bad I almost gave up, but I was in love with the last one and made me realize that like... yeah it really is just practice. Years and years of it to be good at drawing things consistently, quickly, and a variety of things. But I had fun and got something I enjoyed much faster than I expected. So if you want to learn to draw, I would recommend just trying to draw something you really like following a guide and just try it once a day until you are happy with the result.

We talk a lot about enshittification of technology, so tell me about technology that is getting better!

I personally love the progress of electric scooters. I've been zooming around on a 400$ escooter for a year and it works so well. It has a range of around 20 miles and top speed of 15 mph, so it works just super well for my uses, and 10 years ago scooters with that range/speed/price were no where near a thing.

I'm afraid it's nothing fun.

I had two cats, one young, one old.

My old 17 year old cat passed recently, and my 3 year old cat has been super erratic for months since. I've tried tons of things from calm down treats, pheromones, different toys... he's just a very unhappy young cat. He runs around just meowing a ton at random times, which he never did before. There is my room mates cat so there is another cat, but my cat has 0 interest in this other cat. He's unhappy.

I'm hoping maybe I can hide this in different places each day and he'll have something to hunt when it makes a noise and give him a sense of schedule and things to do?

I've tried most of the advice I can find online, so now I'm trying to make things up. I didn't give very many details because I knew if I did, I'd just get a whole ton of advice that I already tried.

Weird scenario, but I wanna do a treat every hour for 12 hours.

Anyone know of a good feeder or something that can do that? I could buy two 6 slot feeders and have them pick up after each other, but that seems a bit absurd.

The VP having control over the platform they announce things?

What a novel idea /s

So dumb how much power twitter got for politics. Fediverse for life!

So imagine this:

you owe X amount of money, and fleeing the country makes it vanish

Or you accidentally are given X amount of money, and fleeing the country is only way to keep it

I'm annoyed that worked.

I had already reset the CMOS, but this time after installing it with the PSU off and battery out I went and had dinner.

I am now fully upgraded and running!

BIOS version: 6332

Motherboard:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/6FvZxr/asus-prime-a320m-k-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-prime-a320m-k

CPU:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Qk2bt6/amd-ryzen-9-5950x-34-ghz-16-core-processor-100-100000059wof

According to part picker the cpu should work with version 5862

So it seats nicely and machine powers on, but then the lights on my mouse/keyboard flash on, then off. Then after about a minute the PC turns off.

According to part picker my power supply can handle what I have attached with the new CPU, but I don't really know how to test that.

Already took out the cmos battery and reset.

Putting in my old cpu works just fine, so I didn't brick anything.

Any ideas?

Don't you have to buy an nft and equip it to earn money with that?

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

I actually did do a lot of beat saber, but never got used to any games that had me move around a lot.

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Walk scape is super cool, but in closed beta. Might be a thing to keep an eye on.

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Android has built in pedometer that has nothing to do with google maps, as it's not gps based. It's called google fit.

I thought people would realize it just meant it was a built in Google service.

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Not a bad shout, I just want to spend a consistent amount of time each day for the most part. Which isn't really a thing if I'm going to something like that.

Recently got Walk Scape which is a rune scape inspired game, but you do things by walking and just reads from the google analytics on your walking distance, so no gps and doesn't care where you go, just that you walk. So like to mine something, you take 10 steps, and so on. Also really nice that if you complete your current task, your steps are stored. So you don't have to do things while on the walk, you pick stuff to do before you walk, and then check in after. Really enjoying it!

Also got an app called Macadam, which gives you prizes for walking. But the model is kinda annoying because you'll get 25 coins for walking 2,500 steps in a day, but then you'd get like 5k for doing surveys and 10k for "playing partner games". So it feels a bit just like a mist play clone with a pedometer.

I didn't like games like pokemon go because the best way to play was always just to drive to a good place and hang out there. Also it required you to stop while on your walk.

Curious if there are any other fun walking games!

My disabled friend just needs to make like $20 a day to afford what she needs.

I know there are a ton of like "fill out surveys to ear money" "play games to earn money" "Do this little task" but all the ones I've found give like... $1 an hour.

I know fiverr is an option, but I dunno if that is consistent enough when she needs to get moving.

Any websites that would let her sidegig when she feels up to it and isn't trash pay?

So I really liked games like:

Wurmonline (Never really panned out the way I wanted, last I checked years ago no one really pvp'd)

Salem the Game (Not the popular social deduction game)

Eve Online (I hype fixate hard on Eve so gotta stay away from it. Also the P2W was disgusting)

Rust, but it not being an mmo was always a turn off as individual servers seemed to always have weird issues. Maybe it's better now though.

Any suggestions for MMO's I should check out? I wanna be able to be a little guy and built a little house, then join a group and go raiding. No pay to win stuff if it's possible.

Any good games like that out and about?

Was 25 and super nervous, so when the realtor was like "oh yeah they just check for basic stuff, but I looked around and it looks great" I was like "Oh okay, this is so astronomically expensive every penny saved is good..."

Everything has been great as far as I can tell. House was built like 40 years ago but super well maintained it seemed and I've been super happy. But just curious if maybe I should hire someone to make sure there was nothing outstanding from back then, and no major issues have popped up in the last couple years like leaks/foundation issues, the like.

Is that crazy? Is it weird to call and be like "I'm not selling, I just wanna make sure there are no issues I need to address before they get worse"

Is there a certain type of inspector I should get? I know some inspectors are notoriously lazy.

Also I moved in 2 weeks before covid lock downs happened for time line stuff.

I love fantasy, but fantasy series are kind of nefarious for some... problems.

Series that drag on to reach an arbitrary number, creating a number of filler books. (8/9/10 of a certain series comes to mind for "filler books" )

Series that keep going for so long and lose the thread, straight up making what happened in previous books seem silly and irrelevant.

Books that vary wildly in quality (book 10, shout out to you again)

Series that aren't finished (GRRM fans, you might get your books if he lives long enough. King Killer chronicle fans... I'm sorry, but the author is dead even if the man remains).

I just really wanna try a bunch of fantasy standalone novels from different authors. But I can't for the life of me find a website that'll let me do that. Amazon will say after clicking on it "book 1 of x", so like the information is there, but I can't find any website that let's me search for it. I can find websites that list like "Top x standalone novels of the year" but those are usually really click baity.

"Finished series only" filter would be sick as well.

Anyone have any ideas?

Context: my gf mentioned getting a vpn for privacy, and I tried to explain that it "does" help, but it's more like type of windows on a house. It certainly can be part of the package, but it's no where near the foundation.

So i tried to explain the best that i could That if she was worried about online privacy the first step wasn't to mask traffic, but to not submit personal data to anything online like FB, not use Google services that package everything on you together to sell to advertisers, and to limit phone apps to essentials.

But I'm curious on what other steps you guys would consider the "foundation" of online privacy that should be prioritized before a vpn. Any thoughts? Or am I way off base?

Note: this is in context of vpn for privacy. Using vpn to avoid Geo blocking and censorship I see as incredibly valid for those that need it.

I try to stream my favorite games, and I will get small audiences because I do events in the online games. But whenever I try to edit or listen back I feel like I'm in pain.

Is it really annoying, or is it just that everyone hates their voice?
