Memtest86 didn't find any problems, but I'll try out some different RAM configurations. Got some spare DIMMs flying around..

Hi there,

I set up a new NUC13L3Kv7 a few days ago and installed VMware ESXi on it (to serve as a vSAN Witness).

Unfortunately the NUC keeps randomly freezing from time to time. This mainly happens after being completely idle for hours.

Not even the vPro/AMT webpanel is reachable if this happens (maybe it’s just the NIC that stops working after some time?).

I’ve tried multiple different BIOS settings, updated the BIOS to the latest version, etc. but nothing helps.

Any ideas?

Debian for me on all VMs and all servers that do not run a hypervisor. Can’t stand the snaps that Ubuntu introduced in a very aggressive and intrusive way. Don’t need a GUI either so Debian is a natural choice for me. Pro tip for non critical services: Enable the backports repository to get modern packages with recent versions. I’ve never encountered a problem, but still would not recommend it for a mission critical service.
