Ok, I laughed

You completely missed the point.
You’re using a statistic that literally tracks web views to justify your view that Linux users that just use it for work by browsing the web don’t really count. You say this despite them having counted as Windows users on their work machines, using the same metric, since forever before they had to use Linux.
This. OP seems to discredit those numbers based on two arguments.
- They’re not personal computers but work PCs
- Those computers are mostly using a web browser and that’s it - no “paradigm change”
However, this is ignoring that
- those computers counted when they were on Windows too
- those genuinely working from a browser could probably have done so on Windows as well, no “paradigm change” either going on here
- the usage stats are counted from web hits anyway
Considering this, I’m not entirely sure why the numbers wouldn’t be any more or less significant than before.
Just like they previously counted for Windows before switching. I don’t understand why you arbitrarily decide that commercial/enterprise use is not a valid piece of market share that’s been part (if not the largest piece of) the counter since forever. Hell, the market share counter literally counts web browser hits lol
On a hospital PC?
Yeah, with the limited time I have left after the two kids, the wife and the job, I admittedly play a very limited selection of games and not for very long nowadays, and those Just Work(tm) so far. But I also own more games than I’ll ever finish so I’ll probably hit something eventually lol
Interesting, consider my curiosity to be piqued. I’ll try to see which titles see the largest improvements using GE builds. I probably have one or two in that ever growing library I’ll never get close to finish…
Ooh non-GE doesn’t have FSR? I’m on a 6750XT, so that sounds useful…
I’ve yet to need to use GE’s Proton builds, I’ve pretty much always used the ones Steam gives me… Is the difference that major/noticeable?
I shortly used lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works before settling on lemmy.ca as well
Some of it is pure misinformation - the very thing they fear, getting weaponized against them. There’s a way to present things to people that sounds very convincing to someone with weak critical thinking and/or without empirical research experience. These people typically will focus on the few pieces that validate their beliefs and throw the rest out as lies/conspiracy/garbage/etc. It gets kind of dangerous when they hit peak Dunning-Kruger and they totally refuse to hear reason, they usually need some kind of major tragedy close to them to question themselves lol…
I guess some of it might be some sense of belonging. There may be a part of it that is purely about validation from peers.
I’ve also had many friends over the years who didn’t get vaccinated as children over religious reasons.
Psychotic depression, or psychosis episode by some undiagnosed issue, altered state due to substance/meds mix… the mind is a fragile thing. I’ll (hopefully) never fully understand it, but it can happen to “regular” people, given some mix of circumstances.
Sometimes they’re also just killers with a death wish 🤷♂️
