You want to be quirky on a budget.

I have a really a good opportunity to buy a lange saxonia automatic big date moonphase for a good price from a family friend.

The seller purchased it used from a very reputable grey dealer without box and papers but has an appraisal report for the watch.

Im not too worried about the authenticity as you cant really fake a lange movement (if someone did kudos to them). But a lot of people are saying once you get into buying high end watches box and papers do matter and no matter how good the deal is you should not buy.

People have also stated that because of unknown service history, it could be a real pain the ass to take care of higher end watches as not anyone can service them and the saving for the purhase would be wiped out from the servicing cost.

What is the advice of the group here?

Thank you everyone for the input.

I have decided not to buy from ebay and a not buy a breguet at all.

I’ve been eyeing a breguet classique on ebay with box and papers, but the owner wont share pics of the papers to match the serial number and store location. Having never owned a breguet, here are some questions:

  1. Are there super clones of breguet classique watches? If so how good can they be? Breguet watches have a lot of details that I assume super fakes can’t copy.

  2. how do you authenticate a breguet? What are some question I should be asking the seller given they wont share pics of the serial number and papers for privacy reasons?

  3. how trustworthy/ reliable is ebay authentication?

  4. how often do you have to service breguets? How much would an average service cost?
