First with Chrome, now with OneDrive. What exactly are they trying to do with these "explanations" aside from annoying their user base?

Sigh...this is only going to make things even worse!

Actually, I think I'm kinda okay with the "death" of social media. I mean, I'm already on this platform a lot, so...I guess I'm not missing much?

Oh yes, Flatseal is also a good tool to have! Thanks for adding that!

Have you considered Pop OS from System76? Pop OS has a GNOME-like DE where the dock is fully displayed. It's very much like the macOS DE. The current stable release uses a GNOME-like DE, and the developers at System76 are working to make it into their own DE called Cosmic.

It's gotten to a point where the higher prices and the lack of new content worth watching are getting harder to justify subscriptions to those platforms. A decade ago, I could subscribe to either Hulu or Netflix, and that would be good enough for me. Now, there are so many platforms, and the shows I want to watch are spread across different platforms.

It's just not worth it. I might as well just watch clips of my favorite shows and episodes on YouTube. If one of the streaming platforms does push out something that's worth the monthly fee, then fine, I'll subscribe.

I personally recommend LibreWolf over Firefox. It is a fork of Firefox, but it includes some additional settings for better privacy.

Flameshot is a pretty useful screenshot tool that functions similar to the Snip tool on Windows.

If you're going to be installing apps via Flatpak, I recently learned of an app called Warehouse that allows you to view all the Flatpak apps you installed, the user data associated with each app, and their file location.

If you want another option for LibreOffice, you can try OnlyOffice, but I personally prefer LibreOffice.

If you're looking for a text editor that's like Notepad++, I recommend checking out NotepadQQ.

Finally, if you want a notebook app similar to Microsoft OneNote, I'd like to recommend Joplin.

This is awesome! I recently switched over to Kagi because of several Lemmy posts mentioning it as an alternative. However, I really appreciate you sharing your preferred SearXNG instance. I have it added to my browser's list of search engines and may switch to it from time-to-time to see how different it is from Kagi. If there really isn't much of a difference, then I may switch to it after my Kagi membership ends.

For a company that has a reputation of announcing and releasing ambitious projects only to cancel or send them into a "graveyard", this does not surprise me. I do not discount the current housing market as a factor leading into this decision, but regardless, I wasn't expecting much to happen.

Also, I do find the following a bit suspect:

What's more, the pandemic reshaped ideas about work and opened the door to work-from-home opportunities. Companies are slowly getting people back into the office, but working from a central location isn't the necessity it once was for many. This means folks taking jobs in Silicon Valley don't necessarily have to move as deep into the city as they once did, allowing them to live a bit further out from town and avoid the premium real estate market.

Wasn't Google one of the numerous tech companies that demanded their employees to return back to office?

It's the ActivityPub integration that I would like to see. Once that happens, I'll be able to use my Mastodon account to communicate with my Insta friends.
