I think so as well and it is sad that that the OP has to be in a place where internet is so heavily censored.

I think your best bet is try to use OpenVPN via TCP over port 80 or 443. You could also try setting up an SSH VPN tunnel.

XFS is a possibility

No, all of services are reverse-proxied through a WireGuard tunnel connected to my cloud VPS.

I think that's reasonable.

Mailcow is one I believe

It could be that it's being updated.

I think using dd is the way.

It's possible to bring your followers with you by doing an account redirect. On your old server and/or account, go to Preferences->Profile and then scroll down until you see move to a new account and click on the link. Then on your new server and/or account go to Preferences->Profile and scroll down until you see move from a different account and click on that link. Your follower will be alerted as to your new account. Right now you aren't able to bring your posts over with you. Unfortunately it is not possible to even export your posts yet with Mastodon. A part of me is regretting not going with Akkoma or Calckey when I decided to redo my Mastodon instance because I believe those twitter-like alternatives give you the ability to export/import all of your data.

Right now I pay 15.00 a year for email through Zoho and it works really well so maybe it is folly for me to change it up. It's more the principle of having to pay for email chaps at my ass when I have the technical know-how to do it myself. But Zoho is probably not selling my data since I am a paid member.

I will use my VPS as an SMTP smart host because I have a residential dynamic DNS connection and many mail providers block those IPs by default. I have to see if my Oracle always free tier will let me use port 25. I have a feeling I may bit shit out of luck on that front.
