I moved to smart launcher because I needed the gesture based controls. It's mostly similar but has some quirks.

I can't remember if it's free or not but it was at most a 1 time payment.

That's not entirely true: sacrificial anodes attract and collect calcium and magnesium as well as preventing rust.

Honestly for a multinational corp operating at the scale they operate that's a pretty good report card. They look like boy scouts compared with Nestle, Coca cola etc

No mention of paying for death squads, no forced child slavery ...

Doesn't mean you shouldn't boycott, just that there's a sliding scale and if you have to choose a Nestle product or a Unilever one is less evil.

Climate disasters are not affecting the world equally everywhere. Hurricanes are far and away the most destructive climate related disaster and they disproportionately affect Florida of all US states

Florida is uninsurable, that's kinda the issue.

There's a reason so many big insurance companies have left Florida. And honestly I don't really want even more Federal money going to rebuild in the most common path of ever rising hurricane intensity.

I want Federal funds set aside to move people out of Florida in homes elsewhere for those who want it. If you want to rebuild your house in the path of the hurricane you can do it on your own dime.

Hell yeah

It does seem like the harder part of the negotiation (automation) will happen in January.

It's a shame that the labor union is opposed to Automation but in a capitalist system any loss of a job threatens loss of life: there is strong incentive from unions to oppose automation for that reason.

Automation should be the joy of the worker but without ownership of the means it becomes the worker's doom.

I didn't find a helpful explanation in those links but this weather.gov link explained what clear air mode was.

"Rosy retrospection" is the phenomenon.

Humans are flawed. We forget how much things suck and remember what was nice about them. That can be good in getting along better with other people - but it sure causes a lot of problems in a modern context.

No - the internet pre-eternal September was not perfect. Objectively speaking it was less useful and less helpful than the modern web. A bunch of old heads got mad that they couldn't keep using the same crusty Monty Python jokes ad nauseam when they had to routinely interact with the general public.
