Damn it does. I mean giving everyone options to choose career and tech schools in lieu of public schools could actually improve education, but everything else there seems terrible.

You're likely eligible for your states Medicare subsidies. Democrats fixed the family glitch in 2022, so you'll likely save thousands switching off your employer plan, even if you're making low six figures.

Of course those subsidies expire in 2025, and there is a snowballs chance in hell of those getting renewed now.

Democrats did a lot of things to improve the lives of working class, at least as much as they could get pass the Republican house.

Their problem is messaging. They are terrible at communicating what they're doing, and how it's going to help. I mean part of that problem is the media (ie fox news) is allowed to lie and Dems try to tell the truth. The playing field is not really level.

If America gets that bad

See the years 2017-2021... I don't think the next 4 years are gonna be all that swell. Last time over a million US citizens died. I think they're gonna pump those numbers up this go around.

I saw someone comment that it would 'get rid of' the dept of education. Is that actually what it says or would it just weaken it?

He has stated he will be a dictator. The Senate flipped Republican and there is a good chance the house will too.

With total control of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government, all they have to do is repeal the filibuster (very easy), and they have complete unchecked control.

They will obviously start with things that are not as bad, but they're not going to want to give up their power, and in 2 years there is a zero percent chance elections will be held democratically. They might appear democratic, but they'll resemble "elections" in Russia.

The most important and serious one not on the list is that democracy no longer exists in the US. I would be very surprised if people are allowed to vote in 2026.

He will be a dictator day one (actual quote), and dictators don't typically stop dictating once they feel the power.

I honestly think he's going to be worse than Hitler. A lot can change over the next 10 years.

That part took 10 years to evolve. He was elected in 1933, he wasn't out of the picture until 1945.

12 years of evolving fascism, it's an exponential curve.

Have opinions on what Dems did wrong or where we go from here?

Please post your ideas here if you'd like: !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world

We need a solution to this, because honestly the US just lost its democracy.

It's 1933.

Any ideas on ways out of this?

I honestly think this will be the last time we have an election. It's looking like he could possibly take the house, Senate is already red. Likely control of all 3 chambers. Our systems of checks and balances likely won't survive the next 2 years.

The man has outright said he would be a dictator on day one and would make his enemies pay.

1776-2024. RIP America's experiment in democracy.

If Dems want any chance of winning in 2026 (midterms), assuming we still have an election, there is only one path forward, and that is things that matter to Americans.

Economic issues that Sanders was successfully campaigning on in 2016 when he was thwarted in the primary. It's not important to fight over what happened that year, but his platform is 100% the way forward to progress.

If you can, turn off your phone or computer and go vote!!! If you already voted, tell someone else to vote!!!

Less than 10 hours from now will decide if the US veers toward democracy or fascism.

State and federal authorities are investigating a deliberately set fire that destroyed ballots inside a drop box in southwest Washington on Monday morning.

Stories that talk about all the bad things Trump has done are only seen by the left. This makes the left hate Trump and his supporters more, while the right feels increasingly "oppressed" by this hate. They run to their savior Trump and the viscous cycle continues. More media presence for him only adds to his influence, negative press possibly moreso than positive.

People on the left should ignore Trump and talk about real issues. It is the only way to defeat a sith.

You never know if you might come down with the flu or have a family emergency on Nov5. Don't take the chance if you can avoid it and vote in person early!
