Also for a few of us who were considering a Kagi subscription, an informed decision to stay with our current search providers instead

Same here. Looks like I'll be staying with DDG for a while yet.

Seeding without port forwarding is really slow IMO because often you're seeding to someone who is mostly a seeder themselves. Most leechers have it disabled so they can't really establish a connection in either direction between themselves AFAIK, putting extra pressure on the seeders with open ports

I moved away from using an older Pi for this because of the exact same issue 😂 as soon as you're seeding to any quantity of leechers the thing slows to a crawl with the CPU maxed out

They should do something about "consent platforms" using various DNS tricks and thousands of domain names to bypass/evade user blocks.

I wasn't so bothered about some non-invasive ads a few years ago, but I absolutely despise any kind of ad now TBH, and it's mainly down to how persistent some of these platforms are with their evasion tactics

Also pretty ironic for their popups to talk about "respecting" my privacy when these platforms literally do the opposite of that to show their popup in the first place. I will not support any of them, in any way, on my network.

As soon as I see a new one appear when browsing, I chuck it into dnsdumpster so it can get recorded with the rest of them, and then block the new list from dnsdumpster (grid icon) on my network.

Probably is exactly what happened here. The FreeCAD wiki went down on the 1st too, thankfully they have it mirrored to a GitHub repo so that ended up not being a major issue

Seytonic on YT is great for privacy news, although uploads are infrequent.

found that some of them have a history of advertising NordVPN

That strikes off almost all of youtube TBH, maybe that is a good thing for you though?

They don't hang out on other platforms like Odysee which is strange.

A lot of youtubers I follow have tried it and left because of the unmoderated comments. That should be a big pro point in an ideal world, but the kinds of people that gather in those sorts of places tend to be quite freeze peachy IMO, and there are barely any constructive comments most of the time.

Some other channels set it up to mirror their YT, and have pretty much abandoned it otherwise.

Platforms like Odysee will probably hit a critical mass of non-freezepeachy users when YouTube really messes up IMO, in the same way Lemmy existed for years and had its own culture, before the migration brought over a critical mass of users with a completely different culture.

Youtube will have to really mess up hard though, probably in a way that cuts off third party apps the same way Reddit did. If you ask anyone in my house to open YouTube... it'll be piped, freetube, newpipe SB or grayjay, not the official site or app. My partner is a very heavy user of Freetube in particular because its so clean.

Oops I just realised how badly I deviated from your original question 😳

I completely forgot about coal power plants 🤦‍♂️ now it makes sense as to why mercury was even considered a viable rocket fuel.

Very interesting, thanks for the info!

It's a bit shitty that anyone would even think of doing this to begin with IMO, especially considering that mercury's harmful nature is no secret!

Mercury is otherwise found as a by-product of other processes, such as the burning of coal

Actually susprised that it's even viable to use a byproduct of burning something else as a fuel

Apollo Fusion [...] insisted that the composition of its propellant mixture should be considered confidential information.

Good thing it wasn't considered in this scenario. Racing fuel using nitrous oxide and whatever is one thing, but spraying mercury everywhere into the atmosphere with a rocket honestly sounds like a sick joke

"[...] It would give you a competitive advantage in what I imagine is a pretty tight, competitive market"

Launching rockets is a competitive market? TIL, I thought there were only a handful of companies operating with very generous margins

A lot of EVs have this built in, some even include V2H so they can backfeed inverted AC to your home via the charger, but it isn't mentioned anywhere on most product pages (f150 lightning being the worst instance of this; it has a 10kW V2H inverter and there is no mention of that anywhere on its page!)

In the other discussion thread one user noted they even had issues locating a V2H charger at all to purchase, so I guess the manufacturers don't want to explicitly set up their users for disappointment...

Annoying when you accidentally hit it instead of ESC in certain Windows programs, loading Microsoft's windows help website in your browser without your consent.

On Linux it usually does nothing, as it should.

Looks like my next keyboard is going to be a mechanical one. I don't want a "copilot" key that I won't use!

It is ridiculous that Steam won't let you play your games you payed for outside of steam

Very easy to run your previously purchased steam games without Steam. Search "Steam emulator", follow the GitHub or Codeberg link, and problem solved...

Won't help with games that use their own custom DRM though.
