I'm not sure how big Masimo is, but they probably have reasonably deep pockets too considering they manufacture and sell a ton of hospital equipment.

If Apple wanted to buy out Masimo it certainly wouldn't be cheap, and would probably upset their shareholders, but they do have the money

I moved from Niagara to Kvaesitso - my subscription lapsed and there were no Google Play free credits available to renew it. The renewal price was silly anyway, was almost triple the previous amount.

Kvaesitso is quite different but like it generally. Only thing I miss is the contextual calendar events shown under the clock - the equivalent space in Kvaesitso currently shows either the date, time until your next alarm, or some other misc stuff, so hopefully shouldn't be too difficult for a dev/contributor to implement contextual calendar events if they choose.

The search is much more capable than the one in Niagara. You can optionally tag your apps too, so if you search "nfc", all your NFC apps show up, or "sysadmin" to show all your sysadmin/homelab apps etc.

I've customized mine quite a bit so it looks very different from stock, home screen is also much emptier than it was before. Took almost an entire day to get it just right for me

Lemmy to Lemmy moderator actions all federate, however it gets flaky with Lemmy to Kbin/Lemmy to Peertube/Lemmy to Mastodon (and vice versa) where each different activitypub implementation have their own unique moderation commands AFAIK.

Reports on Lemmy were not federated the last time it was brought up in a discussion, no idea if that has changed now

Everything else mentioned is 100% correct though, lemmy instances can also moderate communities that are federated to their instance, albeit only their instance users will see those changes.

Really wonder what exactly Apple is planning/trying to do here. They have more than enough money to settle with Masimo - IMO it makes the most sense for them to just settle an amount for the existing watches, and redesign a new oxygen sensor module for the US market.

Kind of silly for them to expect some kind of special treatment ripping off another company's tech, when they themselves are hyper protective over copycats ripping them off

You went through the trouble of creating a new burner account to post this unconstructive garbage, wow. Starting to see a lot more of this pop up within the past few days. Show that you actually stand behind what you say, and post this from your main account instead so we can block you

When your domain is close to running out, you should either get an email from your registrar asking you to renew, or a payment notification telling you that your domain will be renewed for whatever price automatically.

If the payment fails, the domain will be temporarily suspended. There is a grace period where nobody can buy that domain, allowing you to settle the missed payment. If you do not settle the payment, the domain will be put back up for sale

None of this affects whatever services you're running on your Pi, people just won't be able to connect to it if your domain is suspended.

I'd suggest looking into SSL certificates (Letsencrypt is free) as well as Cloudflare for masking your Pi (your home) IP address from users of your instance - do note this has privacy implications: cloudflare becomes a MITM for your site

Freenom is being sued by Meta (Facebook) at the moment for supposedly not dealing with spam domains. I would not recommend using a Freenom domain if/when they reopen registrations: FMHY had their old Freenom lemmy instance domain seized by Mali's government

My partner has a bunch of AC games and it's pretty much a ritual at this point to delete the launch screen logo files from the game's data folder.

For other games like CS, there's a flag to bypass the whole launcher which is really nice ๐Ÿ‘Œ if only more games did that

Steam also releases pretty cool stuff, and continues to support them way after release... My steam link got an update about three weeks ago, despite being discontinued back in 2018

Also, the steam link can run custom apps (like Moonlight for those who would want to use it for generic low latency streaming without a Steam account) and has the ability to enable a SSH server and root access. There are some limits though on what things you can modify, particularly relating to the boot sequence and the included kernel, as it has a hardware secure boot implementation. The OS is on GitHub anyway.

I will happily give my money to companies like this that actually provide value to their users, even years after the fact. Doubly so if they are domestic or western - it is so rare nowadays to find a western company that isn't blatantly and purely leeching their users

I don't know why but this sounds so rude ๐Ÿ˜‚

I like my software cracked wide open.

On a serious note, soon I can check out OpenFive/FiveM or whatever those multiplayer mods are that let you play on selfhosted GTAV servers, without Rockstar having a fuss...
