Work for yourself. That's how I do it.

Though to be fair DNs can very legally work in a lot of places. My kid is one, working within the US, per her employer's rules. She's still a dn, just moving around within one large country.

I agree with basically everyone in the comments here. I think we're all going to try to cope in different ways. Just as we would if we stayed home.

One week is not long enough to get any kind of discount.

February is high season in Phuket.

Phuket is expensive in general.

I get a real onward flight that I think I might actually use. You can buy one for like $20 to other places in sea.

Skip the hostels. Outdoor who don't drink tend to do morning stuff like running or yoga or other physical activities. I'd try those.

I think one key difference is that sea is so cheap that many more people can afford hotels or airbnbs than in Europe. That changes the hostel calculation a bit, imo, to people who really really want the social aspect or are seriously needing to pay $8 a night instead of $15.
