Good idea!

I wonder which letter set would statistically be more probable? ๐Ÿค”

[โ€“] over_clox@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

You definitely make a good point. I hardly even watch the show, but somehow I manage to solve at least a quarter or so of the puzzles without paying much attention.

Which begs the question, when they broadcast the show, why don't they leave the letters on the screen at all times in a corner rectangle for the viewers to see at all times?

The TV audience is at a bit of a disadvantage as the actual contestants on stage, at least the contestants get to see the letters at all times through the game..

๐Ÿค”

What would those letters rearranged spell? DICK!

That wouldn't have mattered either way, whether the tear area was properly perforated or not from the factory, or whether I would have done it myself.

I perfectly cut where it should have been cut with scissors, but still the zipper was poorly adhered to the bag, weaker adhesive than the zipper itself, so the zipper itself still peeled loose from the bag.

I anticipated something might go wrong, hence the photo before I even tried to open it, plus I already had a generic zipper bag handy before even trying to open it.

Put it this way, the turkey won't be going to waste..

[โ€“] over_clox@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Oh, just wait until I'm about 3/4 of the way through the bag, only to find a slice of turkey with the dotted line printed directly on it..

๐Ÿ˜‚

Nothing surprises me anymore ๐Ÿคท

[โ€“] over_clox@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Yep. I perfectly cut the bag with scissors, but still the zipper was poorly adhered to the bag, and the zipper peeled loose off the bag as soon as I opened it, so I still had to dig out another generic zipper bag for the rest of the turkey.

Sigh, I tried my best, got it perfect, and yet the bag failed anyways. At least I already had a backup plan, as the photo I posted was before I even tried to open the package. I had a feeling it was still somehow gonna fuck up..

I know right? I hate it when I get turkey pubes between my teeth.. ๐Ÿคฎ

Nah, it's an early model Lacie USB key shell from 2011. The way they designed it, it was actually never meant to go on an actual keychain nor in my pocket, it was meant to go on a lanyard. Also, the way they designed it, a cap could never stay on there, even if I tried.

I had to very carefully arrange my keys to lay perfectly parallel to and not rub against the USB traces or bend or otherwise damage the key. But yeah for real, it would never hold a cap, especially in my pocket, even if I tried.

It's almost held up pretty well since 2011 though, and has even been dismantled and rebuilt twice for flash storage upgrades. Currently I keep Linux Mint MATE 22.1 installer/live boot on it, nothing else right now so no personal data, so honestly it's no big deal for me.

For reference, here's a new one on eBay, with way more than the 8GB module I currently have in mine...

Nah, not meant to be perforated, but is meant to have a dotted line printed above that yellow instructions bar. The package did have the pre-slit cuts on both ends, in the appropriate location where I ultimately just decided to cut it instead, as I've seen all too many of those sort of tear open zipper bags just tear miserably wrong and ruin the whole package.

Sigh, even after like perfectly cutting the bag on the intended area where the dotted line should have been, still the zipper was barely adhered to the bag and the whole zipper peeled loose, making the built in zipper ultimately still useless โ˜น๏ธ

Hey, at least I pay attention for potentially defective resealable packaging though, the turkey sure ain't gonna go to waste.

I've also seen other zipper bag issues with shredded cheese, where the two sides of the zipper don't even line up and can never actually seal. I just fold those bags over like 3 or 4 times at the end and use a chip bag clip on those.

Also, why is it that cardboard cereal boxes and similar with the quick rip strip are almost always glued right under the part that's supposedly meant to easily and quickly rip loose?

Sigh, too many mildly infuriating things on my mind to keep adding to this list...

Yes I made a point to carefully observe the clear back side of the package and cut it with scissors, making sure not to damage the zipper.

Still, to make it worse, the zipper was apparently just barely glued onto the outer bag and peeled off the bag as soon as I opened it, ultimately still ruining the zipper, despite careful efforts not to.

Of course I ended up having to put the whole package into another zipper bag to keep it fresh..

I'm well aware of that actually. But if the gold plating is already worn and/or pitted, then the copper underneath will corrode through and even on top of the gold.

Plus, if it counts for anything, I happen to have an open faced USB-A flash drive on my pocket keychain, that actually does still have its gold contact plating, but just looking at it right now, I'll have to clean the contacts once again from pocket crud before I use it again.

In that case though, I usually just lick my thumb, wipe the contacts clean, and dry it off with my shirt. Gold itself might not inherently corrode, but it can and will still get dirty, plus that plating is super thin and just regular use will eventually wear it away down to the bare copper underneath.

It was too heavy in the front and too light in the back, so I added the extra weight to test how the counterbalance feels. Practically perfect for me now ๐Ÿ‘

Yes I realize that BMX flatland is borderline interesting, but I figured adding sand weights to a bike would be dull enough for this community ๐Ÿคท

This is actually an upscaled work in progress, not finished yet, but I'm working on templates for a future tattoo.

Yes that's hand drawn. Yes it's already scannable..

I'll start with a couple I've found for keeping up with atomic clock time, but this question isn't limited to timekeeping, it can also relate to celestial events, weather, etc..

I do like the sleek and streamlined time.ms site, but according to their whois data, they only started that site a couple months ago, while time.gov has been around since 1999.

Long standing sites are preferable, but either way, what other live data sites do you people recommend?

Edit/Addendum: It's amazing how sensitive the tuner is on this thing, it picks up like every station anywhere even close to our area, with great quality no less. I mean sure it's mono, but still great quality for something made in the early 1980s.

And yes, I listened to the whole song, because why not? ๐Ÿ˜‚

If it counts, at least they didn't hit anything. ๐Ÿคท

For anyone that isn't familiar with cubing, the only way a busted cube is supposed to be reassembled is in the fully solved state. Otherwise it's practically impossible to solve if you just randomly reassemble it.

But in this case, last night I was practicing, and most of a whole side just popped loose in my hand, mid-puzzle. I knew exactly where I was with the puzzle though, carefully snapped all the pieces back in their appropriate mid-puzzle positions, and managed to successfully solve it from there ๐Ÿ‘

Note: The photo above is a recreation of last night's cube breakdown, same puzzle sequence though.

Don't mind the dots, that's my own custom mod...

This question comes from watching the TV right now, and they're talking about Bruce Willis. I feel bad for him, I really do..

Bruce Willis apparently has what they call Frontotemporal Dementia. That's a tounge twister mouthful for most average people, I can only assume Mr. Willis probably can't even remember the name of his own condition..

Why isn't there a 'patient-friendly' easy to remember name for disorders that literally affect a person's brain and memory?

Like shit, I bet most people wouldn't know what polytetrafluoroethylene is, but they gave everyone a simple name to know it by, teflon.

So, why don't they have simpler terms for brain disorders so the suffering patient might be able to talk to their own doctor privately..?
