TikTok does not show you "everyone". It teaches us an algorithm can addict you to a carefully selected set of short 6 second clips. People watch their little bubble thinking they saw everyone without even realizing ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ—จ

People need to think about the crazy potential of geothermal energy in general. Thanks for bringing that up ๐ŸŒ‹ . But the problem here: How do we get the Pizza down there ๐Ÿ•. Folding the Pizza through a Borehole ๐Ÿ—ผ? How stable is the temperature at 100ยฐC spots?

No other gaming company seems to do as much for open source as Valve. Microsoft finances its closed source XBox platform, Sony does the same with Playstation. Epic? Nope.

Hate that aspect of social networks as well. Someone has to moderate manually in the end, once a community is not finely curated. Since that is not pleasant experience.

Thats why I Love the idea that users have to show some merit before allowed to join a community. But that kind of system does not scale well. And social networks usefulness is all about scale. There are contradicting forces at play here.

For Videos I can get it, since that costs much storage and bandwidth for the host ๐ŸŽž๏ธ. But for raw text/html? No.

Can someone tell me what happens if my Lemmy instance host shuts down ๐Ÿ’€? Will my posts be deleted?

With the mass adaption of discord these kind of "nice search engine finds ๐Ÿ”" will become rare again.

And I heard that reddit also has a special search engine deal with google while blocking others?

I agree that shutting down a games servers while leaving a singplayer mode still can be a bad move and will give team fortress 2 as an example.

  • people can buy cosmetics in the game, but some may only buy them for their appearance on the multiplayer servers to other players
  • 90% of the games depth with strategy comes from competing with other humans
  • the bots in the singleplayer mode of the game are quite stupid, especially if you play as a spy

If a game has a mode that works in singleplayer without itnernet connection is it covered by this initiative? Since that would not require further support by the developer?
