I have little faith in my country's data protection officer who is responsible for handling stuff like this. I had to deal with them while making a complaint about reddit not complying with the GDPR by not allowing me to remove upvotes/downvotes in a reasonable manner, and also after manually deleting all my posts and comments there were still 2 comments that show up on my reddit profile only if it is viewed "signed out" (i.e. from an incognito browser), but not while I am signed in to the account. There is no way to delete them from within my account. The reply I got from them after several months was that since there was no identifiable data in those 2 comments and since after deleting the account it would show up as u/deleted that my case was closed.

The incompetence of my government officials (more so than any other country) would be a laughing matter if I wasn't so angry about the whole situation.

tl;dr: My country's data protection officer and office is a joke and I have lost faith in them to be able to handle anything. I am considering going directly to the Irish DPO if that is who meta ultimately answers to.

This seems to work for now. Thanks

Where can I find a good example of a GDPR compliant email to request any and all my data that they have, to request it to be deleted, and to delete my account?

Thanks for the site! What channel are you saying to sign up for? YouTube?

I started with ubuntu initially, and appreciate the fact that it wasnt entirely foreign to me coming from windows. Being a techy person, whenever something broke I obviously had to use the terminal to fix it (because all forum posts online use it for troubleshooting) but it was nice to ease into it. Once I got comfortable with that I then moved on to more non-windows like distributions, and eventually ended up where I am now - with arch and a tiling window manager - something entirely different to windows. If I had started with this Im not sure I would have stuck it out.

So my take on your take is that while you have valid points, we need to always take situations with context. Sure, I wouldn't (and don't) recommend super windows-like distros to the guys at my work (IT) who are more technically capable, but if my grandmother or grandfather used computers and for whatever reason we needed to make the switch to linux, I would try to make the transition as seamless and familiar as possible, so I might even have made their UI look like windows. Computers are tools at the end of the day, and every person has something different they want to get out of them.

Not sure if done on purpose or you didn't realise at the time, but you basically just (i hope xD) rickrolled the piped devs and anyone else looking at the issues in future for solutions 🤣

Doesnt work that way over here sadly 😁🥲

My DPO basically told me that since reddit told me (I contacted reddit first as per the GDPR) that I can delete my comments myself I should go ahead and do that, and that my case was closed. Even after telling her that there were still 2 comments visible only when my profile is viewed "signed out", and I provided a screenshot of a regular browser window where I am signed in and an incognito window where I am not, her reply was that once I delete my account they will not be linked to me in any way so they do not violate the GDPR...

Ive been engaged in discussion with my country's data protection officer since the summer, and the reply I got was that I should delete comments myself. There are 2 comments that appear on my profile only if viewed while I am signed out, and when I raised the concerns with her I basically got the reply that "there is no personal information contained within and once you delete your account there is no username attached to them so you cant be linked with them". Is she right, and how do I handle this situation?

Brand is HP/Samsung

Yea, I feel like we all had a feeling before even reading that part. Can't offer any advice other than getting a different brand, as well as this link to a fun little article I read from a few posts above yours in my feed:

https://www.pcgamer.com/our-long-term-objective-is-to-make-printing-a-subscription-says-hp-ceo-gunning-for-2024s-worst-person-of-the-year-award/

Hey everyone. I'd like to let anyone who wants to use my themes/is already using them know that I pushed an update to the github, but I'm not sure what the best way to do that is without either making a single post somewhere and crossposting all over, or simply posting all over.

Is there any community where most server admins will see a post? Any other system to let them know? If you look at my post history a little you'll see that I had to make a post on both a lemmy.ml and a beehaw.org community to let people know whats up.

This is the only community I've encountered so far where this happens. Its just text and not clickable.

This is quite a serious issue because I don't know how I will be able to keep up with all the other Arch linux users trying to tell me they use arch ~btw~, and I don't know how I will be able to tell them that I do too ~btw~.

Hey guys, what are the pros and cons to wayland if I intend to use my PC for gaming + others?

Comparisons to X?

General impressions?

Your advice on if I should use it or stick with X?

My PC parts are arriving soon, and while Ive been a linux user since 2016 its the first time I intend to fully main drive linux, so I guess im just looking for as much information as I can get on it.

Feel free to post links to articles or anything that will answer if you prefer, we're on a link aggregator after all ;) and I dont mind reading.

Thanks in advance :)

Hey everyone. I made two themes inspired and based off the winternord theme some of you may have seen already in your instances. One is a darker, more contrasty theme (icy-nord-darker) based on the other (icy-nord). They are very simple, but they do fix some issues I had with winternord, such as some text being very hard to read because of its colour, or the background image often interfering with the foreground and making it hard to read stuff.

Let me know what you think, any suggestions, what you like, and what you dislike.

Hey guys, I would like to install Debian on my raspberry pi 4 model B 2gb, but I dont have a micro HDMI. I would like to install it headless. I watched a video where the guy created some files in the boot partition on the SD card to enable SSH, and I was wondering if I can do something similar with a Debian SD so I dont need to go out and buy a cable.

I couldn't find too many tutorials for Debian on the pi, and none to install it headless.

Thanks in advance!

Edit 1: I ended up going with raspbian lite because of some other issues that came up.

Hey everyone. Is there a way for us to view out private message conversations? If not, are there any plans to implement such a feature? I feel like it will sooner rather than later become a very important functionality, especially with regards to moderating.
