Depending on the software you need and how technical you are, Wine and Bottles may be a solution to not need an VM.

Huh, never heard of it! from what I gathered from the website its a central VPN? Wouldn't that be overkill for a homelab scenario? Thanks for your response!

Thank you for not only taking the time to answer but also adding quite useful resources. I will look into it!

This may be a simple question, but I could not find resources on that. Does creating a VPN into my home network using my router increase my attack surface? What are the security implications of that in general?

That seems to be the only viable option. Someday I need to build something like this myself.

I wish this was the case, but my Oneplus Nord does not have any "smart" features.

Hey guys, I'm searching for a good app that can do the text recognotion stuff the iPhone can. I have a iPhone for work and was quite impressed that it recognizes text and links that good. Is there anything like it on Android? Bonus points if its Open Source.

I am quite impressed by the funders, German state and Mozilla. Wow.

This is quite an interesting "Documentary" about how internet critics can bend reality on the example of Emil, the Lead Writer of Starfield and Fallout 4.

That seems like quite a large endavour. And I'm always a fan of alternatives. One thing I do not fully understand is the, I do not want to selfhost so its federated. Somebody needs to host in the end, why can't it be you?

Hey guys simple question: Do you use self hosting solutions like CasaOS or Yunohost? Why or why don't you?

This is more of a out of curiousity question since I am currently experimenting with different setups. ATM I prefer self hosting solutions because of the easiness of adding services.

To improve security of option 1 you could use a keyfile, that is either only transferred manually to devices or stored at a second cloud provider.

The two main reasons I decided to opt for a VPS was, that I don't have a PC here that is efficient enough and the faster fresh installs and snapshots are a pro too.

Thanks this is quite helpful!

Hey guys,

I finally come around and started the journey of self-hosting and decided to get a VPS. After securing it, by making login via public-key default, I installed CasaOS and instantly regretted it since it now can be reached freely from the internet. A while ago, I read that you can limit the incoming connection to only VPN and ssh. And configured a Wireguard-VPN on the server via pivpn. But the server can still be reached from the internet. So what do I have to do now? Is it even the right choice, or am I missing something? How do you guys secure your VPS?

That's just such a great image!

In the last few days, I played a lot of the older Tom Clancy Games. One thing I noticed, that they all gone for a more tactical approach, without compromising on the accessibility. You can play it, come back days later and still be decent in it. In today's gaming world, there is a plethora of options of tactical shooter to choose from. Be it "Zero Hour", "Ground Branch" or "Ready or Not". But they all feel so focused on being realistic and hard, while I am searching for something more "arcady". So I am searching for recommendations for some modern tactical shooters, that are still accessible and easy to pop in to even after days of not playing. Bonus if it's single player.

Games I liked: Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Caliber, SOCOM
