It’s like the seasons in Texas. You have summer, MEGASUMMER, still summer, mostly summer but with rain.

Must be a regional thing because for me “our” always sounds like “hour” no matter what

The Samsung tries to “identify” what’s on an hdmi input before it will connect. It seems to call out to the internet to do that because it takes forever to fail and show you the display anyway when it’s not connected to the internet. Even when it is connected, it takes a stupidly long time to switch to a new input. I super hate it and will never buy another samsung tv.

I guess the lg needs to boot tizen before it works, because I see the logo briefly but then it goes directly to the last used input with no other bullshit, so it’s fine with me.

I love how literally nobody is answering your actual question.

I agree that this is problematic and we need TV reviews to include at least some of the information you cite.

If it helps, I have an LG smart TV. It complains if you don't let it access the internet at setup, but if you connect it once and let it do its initial patching, you can decline all agreements and not get nagged until it tries to update again. To keep it from further updates, you can disconnect it from wifi and it doesn't seem to try to reconnect. I can't speak to public wifi because there aren't any open access points near my TV.

In contrast, I have a samsung TV that loses its mind if it can't connect to the internet and becomes basically useless for all the nagging.

No, originally the first three digits designated where you lived when you requested your SSN. The middle two were also not sequential. The final four digits were the only purely sequential ones.

I won’t buy it with denuvo, period. As far as game mechanics goes, I’m fine(ish) with what I’ve seen so far but I wouldn’t pre-order.

The windows version of civ 6 runs better on Linux than the “native” version. I hope they do a better job with 7 but I’m not gonna hold my breath.

Denuvo at launch

I finished the prequel the day after I started it. Now I’m about halfway through The Pillars of the Earth and I’m thoroughly enjoying it even though I generally don’t care for historical fiction.

I started reading “The Evening and the Morning” by Ken Follett yesterday and I’m already halfway through. It’s a prequel to “The Pillars of the Earth.”

Thanks for the confirmation, robobruddah

I'm currently using an AMD 5950x and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 LHR, pushing video to a Dell U4021QW, which is a 40" monitor running 5120x2160@60hz. A few of the games I play are pretty challenged at that resolution, so I'm thinking of upgrading at least the video card. Is there any reason to build a new system with a newer CPU as well?

Way back in 1820, Noah Webster penned a rather prescient speech that talked about the problem of inequality. Some of what he said would be considered problematic today, but IMO the core of his speech rings very true.

The freest government, if it could exist, would not be long acceptable, if the tendency of the laws were to create a rapid accumulation of property in few hands, and to render the great mass of the population dependent and penniless.

In such a case, the popular power would be likely to break limit and control the exercise of popular power. Universal suffrage, for example, could not long exist in a community where there was great inequality of property. The holders of estates would be obliged, in such case, in some way to restrain the right of suffrage, or else such right of suffrage would, before long, divide the property. In the nature of things, those who have not property, and see their neighbors possess much more than they think them need, cannot be favorable to laws made for the protection of property. When this class becomes numerous, it glows clamorous. It looks on property as its prey and plunder, and is naturally ready, at all times, for violence and revolution.

I have a lovely plex server set up and working very well, with tons of content ready to play. Now I just need a client for my TV that doesn't piss me off. I absolutely detest Google/Android TV, and my Apple TV periodically wipes out my Plex preferences, which is a known issue.

I'd like to have a 100% dedicated plex client for my TV. I don't want or need it to do anything else at all, and it has to be totally remote friendly and capable of playing 4k/60 UHD content.

Any suggestions?
