Offline maps are the way to go. I made a habit of having all of the US always stored in my phone just in case something bad happened. Only takes 12GB or so. Cell service can be spotty in large parts of the country so you can't depend on Internet maps.

Then it paid off. Plane lost an engine mid-flight, had to emergency land 850 miles from where I needed to be, and off I went by rental car with map in hand...er...cupholder.

These apps all monetize emotions. Of course they're going to be terrible. Modern SAAS business models suck.

While you have to look elsewhere to do it, yelp or a browser answer the hours question.

No, none of them have a lot of local compute, not enough ram or cpu.

Very little of it runs local. Basically language translation.

I want a phone that doesn't blast telemetry everywhere eating my battery. I want a phone that lasts a week between charges. I also want (most) apps to go away and stick to the web so my browser can keep me safe from them.

My favorite e-commerce experience has been at breweries and comedy clubs. Scan QR code, order on web page. Receive SMS to get back to page. Pay on page when done, close tab. Our exchange of information has completed. Maybe they send an email later, maybe not.

Versus apps tracking the status of your colon 24/7.

Hahahahaha, so true. "Maybe when we have one of those hackathons you can try and do it."

I forgot about the Tea Party, ahhh...simpler times...

Even without apps, disable YouTube and use it in a browser. No reason to even have an app.

It's so weird how Google is incredibly terrible at their own apps anymore. Apple makes their own apps (mostly) shine.

You're choosing a team. Not a person.

Could just use yelp or a browser for business hours.
