Taxpayer dollars going back to taxpayers (and increasing their living conditions) instead of corporate executives and shareholders of businesses that are destroying our planet and causing all sorts of problems for us and other living creatures?! What a radical idea. I'm all for it

Fair enough. I'm pro supporting families myself. I'm against wealthy people helping themselves to things intended for working class families. It sounds like the government didn't put the necessary checks and balances in place to ensure the subsidies go to those who need them
With greedflation these days, one's hardpressed to buy lunch for $10. People who are in a position to buy a second property being eligible for such hugely subsidized daycare is nuts imo
You're not in a good position to boycott for sure, but that doesn't mean there aren't many others who are. I think we can agree that the working class banding together is important. Let's hope something positive comes of this
A difference in ability to take part in a social justice-driven boycott is a dumb use of the term/concept privileged, but not unexpected from mainstream media
Def from Oxford: having special rights, advantages, or immunities
- [with infinitive] having the rare opportunity to do something that brings particular pleasure: I felt I had been privileged to compete in such a race.
I must admit I'm not very knowledgeable about co-ops, but Karma Co-op struck me as more about community than community help. My sense is that it's like a community-run non-profit. I'm sure they have charitable endeavours, but that didn't seem to be a main component of the co-op. (Shopping there feels worlds away from going into a loblaws; it'd be like if you could get at least 90% of your groceries from a farmer's market, which you can shop at whether or not you're a member [membership comes with an appreciable discount].) Both more community and community help is good though :)
I've been to the store referenced in the article, Karma Co-op. It's very neat. As a lifelong Torontonian/city dweller I was quite surprised to find it in my city (~5-6 blocks from Bathurst and Bloor)
Emissions aren't getting better under Ford government? [surprised Pikachu face]
1000% (insurance as well). Breakup loblaws, break up the telecomms; bring fairer prices to Canadians
What an entitled, lying PoS. We've seen his company's quarterly results. We're not all as stupid as he thinks we are
Canadian doctors returned from Gaza almost certainly won't be killed on Canadian soil for speaking out, but there's a high likelihood they'll face professional consequences from hospitals (ie, employers) or their college (ie, professional organization). They'll probably be safer if they work at a community hospital/practice than a university-associated hospital.
I've found it troubling to see how the targeting of healthcare workers, women and children, and aid groups by the Israeli government in their 'war'/genocide has been completely ignored by the establishment - at least within the university and child health circles that I travel in - for the sake of demonstrating at least an appearance of staunch commitment to the delusion that Israel is not committing colonialist genocide. I wouldn't dare say something in real life, or challenge abstract references to the "protest" on campus. I'm in a more precarious than secure spot in terms of job and security, and it's a matter of survival right now.
I applaud the house owners around me that display "ceasefire now" signs on their lawns. And I applaud these physicians, if they're able, to supporting international justice with their testimony
