Almost as if you deliberately ignored the operative word "could" in my original reply so that you could pretend I thought everyone should be forced to see a personal trainer and get mad about that

When people have the choice to receive benefits, they typically only do so when they would actually benefit. People without a problem they believe therapy can address typically won't choose to see a therapist, for the same reason you would not choose to see a personal trainer.

That's not anywhere close to what I said or even could have been reasonably implying. It was already pretty obvious that you were trolling, but this is just ridiculous.

Congratulations though, with that level of jumping to conclusions you definitely do not need a personal trainer.

No, money grows in the pocketbooks of the rich because we let them avoid paying their fair share.

I'm choosing to read that first line as an abbreviation instead of an onomatopoeia.

Whatever you said, I bow down to your extreme wisdom.

it's a luxury good, like travel.

It shouldn't be.

A lot of major health insurance providers have free "self-help" style mental healthcare options, which are better than nothing even if they're kind of lame, but even one of the worst insurers I've been on (Kaiser Permanente) had decent mental health benefits. They like money and they know that subsidizing therapy is way cheaper than paying claims for a lot of the issues poor mental health can lead to

Actually yeah, if everyone could check in with a personal trainer every month or two for free, that would probably return many times the value of its cost through how much healthier it would make the population in the long term

Couldn't you achieve something similar with a hydraulic system that'd be a lot quieter?

I can't figure what that obvious device would be if it's not a battery pack or something though. It's still really conspicuous.

If you are interested in software development, and willing to put in the work to actually learn strong fundamentals, I think you're going to have a clear leg up on the competition after the AI bubble in all likelihood bursts eventually. Vibe coding is hurting the signal to noise ratio in general right now, but as far as I'm aware a "live portfolio" like a website of personal projects has always been as good if not better than a resume when it comes to selling your skills in software.

Just consider whether you'll be able to tolerate doing the work when you're not going to be the one in charge of deciding what you work on.

It's somewhat made up for by there being no state income tax, but it is still among the highest sales tax rates

Just so you know, you can remap the button or turn it off entirely in the system settings under Accessibility

[–] subignition@fedia.io 4 points 5 days ago

You can remap the button or disable it entirely, and it's the least prominent button on the controller, so I think your level of irritation would be low to none.

[–] subignition@fedia.io 3 points 5 days ago

You can remap it to any other button or turn it off entirely. To use your example you could use it as a second capture button if you prefer it on the right controller instead of the left one

No, seriously. A lot of the time after I use one, it results in some kind of mess with varying degrees of subtlety. It's been mildly irritating for years and I'm starting to feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Are you supposed to aim toward the center? To one side? High? Low? Into the drain/water?

I've tried aiming near the side so that the stream hits the urinal quietly and has a low angle of deflection, thinking it'll minimize splash back. But sometimes it seems like there are tiny droplets in a radius around the stream and some flecks will get onto the outside of the urinal, which is no good.

I've tried aiming at the deepest part in the back of the urinal, hoping that the intense splashing from hitting it at close to a 90-degree angle will be counterbalanced by the greatest amount of surrounding urinal surface in the vicinity, but this is too optimistic and tends to deposit a fine mist on the floor between me and my target.

I've tried aiming downwards at the drain, or when it's the style of urinal with a standing water level, at the back half of the water where it's shallow. This is loudest and probably provokes silent judgment from anyone else unfortunate enough to be using the bathroom at the same time as me, but it doesn't seem to be especially good at minimizing mess and in the case of standing water, has a low chance of splashing an actually threatening amount of liquid back in my direction.

Perhaps it's just inevitable that this particular plumbing fixture comes with a little mess involved. In other areas of life we are fine with periodically cleaning in our Sisyphean struggles against the various avenues where dirt and grime accumulate. But I want to be a conscientious user of shared facilities, damn it. And there's only so many times a guy can discreetly wipe off his shoe with a paper towel before going insane.

Please help.

I'm thinking about buying a new PC in the next month or two. I don't play a whole lot of recent games, though it'd be nice to have the option, and I think I'd probably end up with a capable GPU anyway if I want something capable of 3d rendering like Blender, and possibly fooling around with local LLMs.

Function wise, I'm thinking I want a solid CPU, and to stack it with RAM, VRAM, and storage. and I think liquid cooling might be overrated if I don't plan to OC it. It'll also likely be migrating to Linux in a year or two when Windows 10 finally dies, if there are hardware concerns with that.

Aesthetics wise, Mainly I am not too interested in having everything be RGB. I would also prefer plastic paneling over glass; my computer case hangs from a desk mount and in the unlikely event that it has a structural failure I'd like to be more worried about the computer hardware than picking shards out of my skin.

I'm not opposed to building something myself from parts, but I wouldn't mind looking at builders / pre built as an option.

Title. I found out recently that I need some major dental work in the near future and I don't have a damn clue how I am going to raise the extra money. I want to explore any realistic options for increasing my earnings before I have to resort to taking on debt, and I suspect that soliciting ideas in a semi-public place like this will turn up a lot of ideas I would never have considered myself.

I'm not very physically fit, but I am pretty good with computers generally, and I've picked up a little bit of programming in my free time this year, though I wouldn't sell myself as a freelancer in that department or anything. I am also pretty good at proofreading / nitpicking things, my regular job is in QA.

Thank you in advance for any input.
