Actually, much more than that: blues is well known, jazz is well known, hip hop is well known, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jackson, hip hop music, and Barack Obama are "well known" on every continent and in every country on earth.

I have been working in SE Asia /Middle East for 5 years as a Black American. Never had any odd follow up question like that.
