For the longest time I used to shelve Rand next to Marx on my bookshelf. I've read both at various points (might as well learn the source material if you're going to argue about politics...), but it tickled me as a centrist to annoy their ghosts equally.

Everyone but Amazon pulls into my driveway. I share a double wide driveway with the neighbours and the deliver drivers love it. Only time it's been an issue was when a ambulance parked there for someone across the street and we couldn't exit. Woe is me -- someone is literally dying and I had a minor inconvenience. All in all, pretty happy with it.
Star Trek in theory could deal with speed of light limits on lasers. Like, you can miss if the objects you're trying to hit are too far away or moving erratically. There's no reason space battles should be like naval battles, where you sit next to each other firing broadsides. Your targets could and should be light seconds away. It'll be more like submarine warfare, with detection and evasion being key.
They'd never do it. Not enough laser and nebulas. Needs more sex appeal.
Ouch. I know Bandcamp isn't owned by its founders anymore, and the new owners in theory are sketch... But it's still close to the best webstore ever conceived for music. The payment processing alone is worth it. What is Faircamp in that space?
Birds of a shitfeather
It isn't all the users. It's localized outages across several networks. Also, this is solar flare related, which is cool :)
Paywalled...
Publicly traded companies are the root of the issue. Quarterly earnings reports and the related short term profit motive are the worst. Most public stock prices are basically pure speculation, barely better than crypto.
Hypothesis tested: critique of Discovery is back on the menu! ;)
Heh, I got banned from r/onguardforthee, the left-leaning alternative to r/Canada. I had suggested that "not everyone is capable of doing every job, and no matter how hard we try, this will always be the case" -- ban message, "ablism". How the hell are you supposed to have meaningful conversations about politics, progress, and society if the banhammer comes out every time.
Anyway, there !actual_discussion@lemmy.ca which promises to be diving into the nuts and bolts -- we shall see. It's so hard to be a centrist -- you're never extreme enough for anyone.
Seriously, it feels like 1999 internet. And I'm loving it!
