There is some evidence that homeoffice is bad for skillbuilding, especially for new people because it leads to less interactions between workers who could help eachother or develope knowledge about eachother, even organize themselves better because of the workplace bond. Nothing better for the boss than isolated workers, although the direct control gets them off plenty for sure. Many are constantly surveiling homeoffice workers anyway.
The people in LA if they are car dependent are as such because the infrastructure is car pleasing, litterally designed for it. Of course that could be fixed by focusing on building public infrastructure to transform the city. We are all robbed of our time and wellbeing by being so reliant on cars; there is no physicallly and financially less efficient way to transport people across the world then the car afterall. Build more public infrastucture and you see people choose it over the more expensive car, which benefits the driver aswell as the train occupant; less traffic makes for a faster ride!
And the less cars there are on the road the more you can go after the car in certain areas which frees up space that can be used for social means. The kids will be able to run around and play ball where they would once have been run over and so on. The terrible air will be clear and pleasent, the people will be healthier as they ride on their bikes and walk routes between public infrastructure and their destination. They will not be burdend financially by living in a place that extracts their money for having to or wanting to go someplace.
But we need to build out public infrastructure first and ignore the drivers demand for more car infrastructure spiralling into more people driving, slower traffic, less space for the human. The commute is burdensome because you are sitting in a moneylosing box in a line of others in moneylosing boxes. A nice bikeride with good infrastructure and little cars around is refreshing. A short trainride with a book is a delight.
