When parties have unfavourable leaders who spend all their time quibbling nobody shows up to vote.

Everyone I know was saying Mike Schreiner was the only adult in the room but Green was a wasted vote, and all Doug had to do was say nothing to win.

That’s certainly a problem, but in general he does not come across as working class, he comes across as quite wealthy. He also doesn’t get policy into the news often enough, despite some things on their platform sounding good.

And then he hasn’t done anything to assuage concerns NDP policy will be bad for the economy, which if you look at the US it’s clear the perception of being good for the economy is at the forefront of everyone’s minds (whether or not that’s based in reality).

I did have someone mention they felt that having a Sikh PM would not be good with escalating tensions with India. That line felt kinda racist to me. I don’t think that’s why he doesn’t connect with voters though.

Banks have been trying to dump "high risk" (based on their own systems) clients with as a recession risk.

They're reducing credit limits and increasing interest rates to lower unsecured debt ratios.

Friends are just the family you assimilate

I love this line, I'm assimilating that into my vocabulary.

Paints the Borg in a much friendlier light too!

I'm in agreement with you that I don't want the government to be fiddling with the pipes of the internet like that.

They could restrict Canadian ad buying, merchandise purchases via credit card, and restrict app store use, and that would do something.

I just feel like this gesture is symbolic at best. We haven't done anything about the security concerns.

We should be building a domestic tech industry so we don't see all the value extracted elsewhere.

I'm not sure how closing their domestic office while not banning or ordering significant changes accomplishes anything.

It really just hurts Canadian tech workers who will take contractor roles with the TikTok US office. I've met a few TikTok employees and they're actually very high caliber workers, so it would be a shame to lose them (though I disagree with the ownership of TikTok and refuse to use it).

If anything we should take a page out of China's book and require an office where we hold the leadership directly accountable for those security concerns, which frankly 99% of people don't understand or care about.

The outcome is not good for Canada and is deeply bad for several issues I care deeply about.

I do hope this drives introspection here about how our working class feels and has been struggling, and that it drives political change before we see a sweeping conservative majority in the next election.

Sure, Hitler passed some of the first anti-smoking laws.

That doesn’t excuse all the other awful awful things he did.

Also his anti smoking laws failed as the war went on longer and longer.

It’s hard to say what will happen, but I think the Trump presidency will push some away from Polievre. I don’t think it will make a difference unless the NDP and Liberals change their leadership though.

This might be good for Ontarians, as we are looking at an election soon.

I love this community, it’s my favourite place on the internet by far

I know I can’t really do much to help people, but I’m here for you. If you need to chat or vent you can send me a DM.

I’m not anyone special, but I can be a set of ears to listen. You’re not alone.

The lemmy community has been helpful to me when I’ve needed it, if I can return the favour I will.

I know it’s nothing useful for concrete or really all that helpful, but I support you and you’re in my thoughts. I hope things get better for you and all the people who have a tough time ahead.

OC - screen caps from Sub Rosa mixed with the old Reefer Madness poster.

I had fun with this one, the halftone effect gave me a lot of trouble.

This post inspired me to try and create a Reefer Madness post. Title based on this trailer.

TNG S5E6 The Game

S5 E3 Ensign Ro

Mot talking over Picard feels like a latinum mine for memes.

TNG S4E16 Galaxy's Child

This episode has so much cringe in it.

Geordie setting up a meeting and trying to make it into a date is a lot. Plus omitting that he had the computer summarize her files to resolve a critical crisis, while using the information he got from her file in discussing with her is not good.

Brahms does an excellent job letting him down and putting up firm boundaries.

But oh god, when she discovers the holodeck program, and then Geordie rant!

It's tough to watch in a totally different way than the Quark Gender swap episode.

I just watched Measure of a Man, they rule Data has the right to choose. But in Voyager the EMH gets relegated to forced servitude. Why? Doesn’t that violate precedent?

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre stepped into the debate over trans rights on Wednesday, saying "biological males" should be banned from women's sports, change rooms and bathrooms.

"Female spaces should be exclusively for females, not for biological males," Poilievre said in Kitchener, Ont.

The Conservative leader made the comments after being asked if, as prime minister, he would introduce legislation to prevent "transgender women" or "biological men" from participating in female sports or entering female prisons and shelters.

"A lot of the spaces … are provincially and municipally controlled, so it is unclear ... what reach federal legislation would have to change them," Poilievre said.

"But obviously female sports, female change rooms, female bathrooms should be for females, not for biological males," he added.
