Websites just figured out how Google's page rank works and gamed the system. I mean i feel a little bad for them but they brought this upon themselves when they monetized their product.

I think the problem they are facing is data quantity. Sanitizing possibly terabytes of text data is a humongous task. They have probably used an AI to do the cleanup but the more suble errors have passed through the filter.

Heavy traffic is different from a DDoS, assuming the attacker is using standard DDoS techniques (refusing connection after confirmation from server)

What are some projects which have "source available"? Can someone get the source and upload or will it violate some NDA? And what kind of licence is associated with this?

  • Better interface than Windows Media player
  • 100s of cool and edgy skins
  • Nice looking graphic equalizer
  • Nice music visualizer
  • Easy to make playlists
  • Tiny looking player which gelled with the early-mid 2000s vibe

And most importantly, it really whips the Llama's ass. TBH, there aren't a lot of serious reasons. It was just slightly better than the default music player. I personally feel the skins played a significant part.

Okay. Replace core features as extensions. Kind of like the suckless philosophy.

While it's a good idea, I think extensions are purposefully made weaker, that is, they don't/can't have the same capabilities of core features. It will require a huge rework which I just don't see happening.

If they do that, normies will start yelling that Firefox has removed their beloved features and will immediately download Chrome. I have a strong suspicion that a majority of people don't use extensions at all.

I understand your point but there is a huge difference between the 2 products.

Right now, we are basically asking AI pin companies "Why can't this be an app?" And they are giving us vague dodgy corporate answers. Magic leap is a fundamentally different product from a standard smartphone. It failed because the hardware wasn't there yet even though there was a lot of interest.

In 2023, even with a company like Apple, Apple Vision is seeing slow adoption rates of the product. Why? Bulky + power hungry + expensive, similar issues from back then, albeit to a lesser degree. Till the technology becomes accessible, it will remain as a niche. It has the potential to change a lot of things in healthcare and manufacturing but it still has a long way to go.

The metaverse is also suffering from a similar problem. What can the metaverse do that 2nd Life/Minecraft can't do? It needs be better than the existing solutions while still having a low barrier to entry price-wise. Do note I'm completely skipping the fact that it's being heavily pushed by a privacy nightmare of a company.

I can't even remember the last time when some hot new technology changed our lives significantly. I'm inclined to say Android because it was a new mobile OS and now it's everywhere and various devices but even that is more than a decade old.
