science needs politics to not be repressed, politics needs science for being effective and fair.

in these groups theres often someone that just cannot install a new app because their phones storage is full and they can't afford a better phone (or just don't want to spend money on it). i wouldn't insist with these people and just accept using whatsapp
the ones that tried might have just failed, i wouldnt blame them to this point

If we have a federated messager that some people self host, would that actually be more secure? i dont know much about how federation works, but i imagine that an intelligence agency could make an instance that would federate to the others, listen to the metadata of the exchanges in the network and rebuild a social graph like a centralized server could. Is this a non-issue?
we wont get any good revolution by just throwing stuff around. planning and organization are the most important aspects of a revolution
every google site has been doing this for years too. every comment we write in youtube and discard before posting, its being recorded. this isnt news at all.
its a strategy, theyre not even being deceitful here, just pricing to their interests. theres so much evil stuff they do, but this example isn't properly evil.
you dont need root for these things. just download the fdroid apk from its website, open the apk (you probably need to allow installing third party apps in the settings, which come disabled by default these days), then search for libretube or newpipe inside fdroid after letting it download its app catalogue (it may seem confusing that fdroid seems empty at first, but you may just need to slide down to update and wait a second for it to download the catalogue).
be mindful of what info you want out of instagram before opening it. open it, get what you were looking for and get out. dont let it suck you in. turn off notifications. maybe install it in the work profile (if you use android) and leave the profile disabled when youre not using it.
i try to only open it once a week, like i do with my personal email. otherwise i get sucked into it when i procrastinate. but i admit i mostly rely on some friends finding out about local events.
you underestimate too much. trump is just a face, there are plenty of people working with him and planning all kinds of shit. any kid plans some trickeries while playing board games. what makes you think a political group is incapable of forethought?
the logic is that they think white people deserve the land more. Its plain old racism.
