I acidentally played music on my iem at 90 dbs for about 5 minutes, will that cause any damage to the drivers?

It’s the 7th acoustics supernova and I was using apple dongle. Left it on the table when that happened.

Has anyone else experienced the 109 Pro's significantly amplifying the "speaking through a cardboard box" effect that bad mics have? Being in Discord with friends is just awful -- even various youtube vids / twitch streamers sound gross compared to the vocal clarity from my DT 770 Pro's or Senn 560s.

These are brand new; I'm mostly trying to determine if I got duds or if this experience is to be expected of the 109 Pro's. I've seen so much praise for the 109 Pro's as daily drivers that this really surprised me, and ultimately makes them unusable for me outside of music. I'm using a FiiO K5, but have experienced the exact same effect straight from mobo, and on another machine.

EXAMPLES (and these are with mics much better than my discord friends have)

https://youtu.be/FeWmMsfsvYA?t=7

Starting from 0:07 or so through 0:22 in this vid, he sounds like he's talking through a tunnel/box. If I switch to my DT 770 Pro's, the quality drop is hardly noticeable, and with my HD 560S's, the tunnel/box effect is only slightly there.

https://youtu.be/k_sQEXOBe68?t=96

This one is less of a tunnel effect, but might also be a clue to what's going on. On the 109 Pro's, it sounds like everything they say has a loud extra layer of warmth that sounds like they've mixed their vocals for ASMR. On the DT 770 Pro's and Senn 560S, it just sounds slightly deeper, like a typical Shure SM7B recording for example, but their voices are clear and the ASMR-esque effect is gone.

Any advice is appreciated! It seems most likely that I should return them (especially at $800), and what's unclear is if I should be getting another pair or if it'd just be the same experience. Or if I should be turning to EQ (though it seems like people have been quite happy with these out-of-box).

I had a pair of Sennheisser HD660S that I tried to sing over to no avail, however my new/used sony MDR-Z1R pair is letting me sing over it with my deep voice.

Can anyone shine a light on why an open back wouldn't and a closed back is?

Also, IDK guys, the general opinion of owners is that it is the greatest you can get when your listening to anything and everything. Especially popular music.

I got the FF5s and I love them so I want to expand my flat heads collection, where can I start?

Hi All,

I don’t consider myself as an audiophile but more of a hobbyist. I recently acquired the Monarch Mk3 for about a month or so. I’m pretty much in a love hate relationship with it due to some genres may sound rather muddy in the mids . I mostly listen to alternative music genres like post hardcore, metal-core, djent, progressive metal and i found it kinda like a hit and miss at the same time. As some of the albums don’t really have a good mix to the point that i have to EQ it using wavelet to clear up the mud. I really love the bass rumble of the MK3 while listening to Bad Guy - Billie Eilish and the it has stupendous amount of imaging and instrument seperation when im listening to Cluster - The Algorithm. The MK3 really open up my taste for music from 7rings - Ariana Grande to classic rock bands like white snake. I’m really glad that I’ve purchased them as an all rounder but i am missing the sound from LSX/LS10 by Rooth Audio and they don’t seem to be around anymore :(. The imaging of the LSX is amazing where you can hear every single hit of the drums so pronounced while listening to White Washed - August Burns Red. If any kind soul could recommend me an IEM specifically for metal-core genres or perhaps point out on how to acquire the LSX would be awesome!

My setup: Hiby R6III ( Tidal only ) - PW no.10s - Monarch MK3 - TRI Clarion Tips

Bands i listen to: August Burns Red, Currents, Architects, Northlane, Darkest Hour, The Ammity Affliction, Saosin,The Bride, Dance Gavin Dance.

Sorry for using DIY/Mod as a flair since technically this is a mod/help type thing, but is there any way I can make a replacement button cover presser thing for the beats studio buds? It came off in a Public setting and I lost the cover for it and I was wondering if anyone had the same experience and how they fixed it. Also no I won't be buying a replacement bud.

I couldn't tell if it's a random pick from one of these or all are included.

I just got these delivered today after waiting patiently for 2 weeks. First of all these are some sexy looking cans... Secondly, these are truly an enjoyable listen. Coming from the 990 DT’s, these are pretty refreshing. They’re also very very comfortable, but I am aware that the pads wear out after about a year so I’ll have to grab another pair. But overall, probably the best $350 I’ve ever spent.

Am I crazy? I heard tons of awesome reviews. I bought these almost 2 years ago and tried to like them. They have great accuracy and soundstage and have a presence better than any earbud I had heard to date (when I bought them). But they are soooo shrill on the top end I can’t listen to them.

I followed them up with the meze rai solo and found those much more easy to listen to. I’ll have to go back and compare the soundstage and clarity…

But people seem to swear by ikko… am I nuts?

There must some guys here who had a chance to hear some of the headphones i'm thinking about, and i was wandering how do these headphones stack up against today flagships. Headphones i have in mind are AKG K1000, Sony Qualia 10, Sony mdr-10, Grado HP1000, Stax SR-Ω, Sennheiser he-60 I'm wondering how are these headphones in comparison to today's totl headphones.

Does anyone know how to check the case's battery level? How do I know if the battery is low?

I get that different headphones are geared toward different types of music or tastes. But I don’t understand why there isn’t a generic set of headphones with “normal” everything that is just all around realistic, has enough base, has sound stage. I feel every headphone I read about is good but has significant drawbacks that you have to look past? Like why can’t the HD 800s have a version that isn’t cripplingly low on bass? That’s just one example but it seems every time I get excited about a pair of headphones there is some massive red flag whether it’s wierd trebel, bass, tone, being unrealistic, etc.

I wanted to give the company a chance to exchange a set of cans before I made some conclusions about this pair. I bought a set nearly a year ago, and at first thought they were pretty solid. After some tests I was wrong. The buzzing and rattles became apparent. I did everything possible, every online trick etc. Nothing fixed the issue, especially in lower and lower mid registers. I just got my exchange unit, and they are not burned in, but the horrible buzzing is present but in slightly different frequencies, worse really. Just a warning about the quality control of the lower models. I was going to buy a Sundara or XS but I will not buy any more Hifiman ever. My replacement pair cannot be used and buzzes so much it is basically trash. Unfortunate.

Hi!

I always wanted to know If I'm listening at too high volume, and I've seen plenty of people on Reddit tell in the comments at how many dBs they usually listen to their headphones.
However, I don't understand where these people get their numbers from.
I understand that you could measure the output of your headphones by building a contraption which uses a calibrated microphone to measure the dB. However, I do not plan to buy such a mic just to measure this once.
I also know that it is possible to calculate your output level from the specs of your headphone output and your headphone sensitivity. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do this correctly, foremost because I don't know how the scaling of my potentiometer works.

Does somebody here have an idea?
If it helps, I am using Dt1990 Pro and an Audient id4 Mk1.

Thanks in advance:)

Recently I got an Asgard 2 for my LCD-2f and noticed that recessed highs are not that recessed in comparison to Magni 3. I’m not competent in this area so need an opinion on this:

Is it possible that different mW value per channel could result in slightly different sound? Or this is placebo and I’m trying to justify the purchase?(at least my coffee placed on Asgard is always warm, this one is real)

I know this subject is mostly subjective but... So, the only issue I have with my DT770 Pro 80Ohm is its long cable. 3 meters is a looooot. So I've been thinking in doing the single ended detachable mod and buy a 1.5m (approximately) 3.5mm cable.

And I immediately thought, if I'm going to mod these DT770, I should do the balanced mod. But after watching tutorials, I can see it's a good amount of job. Not so complicated, but not so easy.

My DAC is the Qudelix 5K. Most of the time the volume is ok. Just in a very few videos or music, I need to turn up the volume to the max (an issue that could be solved with the balanced mod).

But, other than that, is it worth it for any other reason?

Anybody here with the Qudelix 5K and the DT770 Pro that notice any good improvement from using the 2.5mm balanced output of the 5K, over the 3.5mm output?

Or I should do the easier mod. As I mentioned, my only current real issue is the extremely long cable.

Thanks!

For the last few years, i've been using a pair of SR-80e's. The previous generation. I was always very happy with the sound, but the left can came loose and always falls out now. Plus, there's now some kind of weird vibrating sound coming from the other can (which kinda fixes itself if i push on it).

Anyway, i decided what the heck, and got me a SR-60x. First impression was that it is REALLY bright. I swapped back and forth with my old 80e, and it's a noticeable difference. I just like the sound of the 80e better.

Does anyone else find the 60x's too bright? Are all the X models more bright? Do they just need a few hours to "burn in" the sound? For reference, i listen to mostly classic rock, jazz, jazz vocals, 70's funky stuff...Beatles, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, Tears for Fears, Miles Davis, Ellington, Basie are among my favs. And classical from time to time. I'm not much of a bass-head, and i rarely listen to anything really bass heavy like rap/hip-hop, pop divas, etc. The closest i usually get to dance is New Order or something.

Honestly, if it was a fair price, i'd like to just send my old 80e's to Grado to be fixed, but i feel like they would charge me more than i paid for them, but willing to wait to see if the 60x's get better with use. Thoughts or recommendations? Thanks.

What's your impressions about Monarch MKIII?

Well, I think I have decided to pull the trigger for the Monarch MKIII. After watching as many videos as I can stand and reading all the reviews I can find, I have narrowed down my choices and decided on the monarch MKIII. This will be my first high-end iem and so I want to be clear when deciding. If anyone has this iem, I would like to hear your experiences one last time. What were your expectations when you bought it, how much did it fulfill or did you go back to another iem you had after buying it? If you can share your impressions, I can now empty my wallet with peace of mind!

Thank you everyone.
