Hey there, I recently picked up the Steelseries Nova 7 and I've been quite impressed with its ability to simultaneously play sounds from my PC and phone – it's truly a game-changer!

However, I've been experiencing a minor issue with the Nova 7 as they tend to slip off my head quite easily, which can be a bit frustrating. In contrast, I have an older Siberia 800 headset that's incredibly comfortable and works great. I'm hoping to achieve one of two things:

  1. I'd love for my current headset to function like the Nova 7, allowing me to hear audio from both my PC and phone simultaneously without any hassle.
  2. If option 1 isn't feasible, I'd like to at least have the ability to switch easily to Bluetooth mode to listen to my phone and then seamlessly switch back to my PC.

I appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance!

My order of Phillips SHP9600 headset came in today. I like the sound of it but the ear cups clamp way too damn hard on my head. My head hurts so much right now after only a couple of hours of wearing the thing. Every review I read said the 9600 has very light clamp but it feels near crushing levels for me.

To people who own or used this headset before. Did you experience this level of high clamp like me? If you did, does it loosen up over time the more you wear it of did it never go away? Should I just return the set if it’s hurting my head this badlyy or try to tough If our til they loosen up? I have a really big head and told these will fit me very well I’m worried about doing permanent harm to my head if I keep wearing it. I need some aspirin.

So I've been using the Hyper X Cloud IIs for almost as long as I've had PCs. Recently decided to upgrade (partly due to HyperX changing ownership) to better ones, after a shit ton of watching reviews etc. decided on the Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro. I've been testing it and I have noticed 2 things; They are rather similiar in audio quality, except I find the DT 770 pro to be more "muffled" like all sounds just sound more "distant" like they arent actually near my ear and properly "hearable" like Cloud II. Like the sounds are way farther away or just "muffled"... And another one is that I need to really crank up the volume on my PC and still they sound too quiet. I basically have to almost max that shit out, windows volume and spotify, youtube etc. I think I might need an AMP? any AMP recommendations for a lets say around 100 dolar/euro budget. I know an AMP will make it louder, but will it improve the feeling of "muffleness" I get from them, or is that "muffleness" actually a good thing, the way good quality headphones are supposed to sound like? That it has more nuance and not everything is in your face, or what?

Are you invalidating all of these measurements?

Saying that technicalities cannot be measured?

You guys sure do measure an apple dongle and say is all you really need.

But when it comes to technicalities everyone agrees that they are subjective?

So I was trying a pair of Bose QC ultra headphones in my local electronics shop. As soon as I played the first song, something was off. There's a kind of suffocating, throbbing feeling you get in your chest. So I downloaded the bose music app, connected the headphone to the app, opened the EQ settings and this is the default.

Sweet mother of god, you're gonna kill somebody Bose.

This screenshot speaks for itself. There's just way too much bass. I don't think I enjoyed them even after EQing, the bass just chokes out the mids and treble, but your milege may vary. To people who can't be bothered to EQ, stay away from these. To people who can be bothered, I stil think you should try before spend $475.

Hi! I own a Fiio K7 AMP/DAC combo, which works great with my Windows laptop, either using Fiio's ASIO driver or WASAPI on Foobar2000. The unit has an indicator light that glows blue when playing anything up to 48kHz, yellow for anything over 48 kHz, and green for DSD files. This happens automatically depending on the file Foobar2000 is currently playing.

Now, I will be buying a new laptop soon and an M3 Macbook Pro is one of my main options. Does anybody know how macOS handles the external DAC situation? Is it true that one has to manually switch the MIDI app settings to match track bitrates instead of it changing dynamically?

Thanks for your help. This will ultimately help me with my purchase decision.

I have my Audeze Euclid for over a year now and they are my go to headphones. I bought them at about $600, I replaced the original cable with a balanced one as the Audeze one was crap and gave in after the initial 2 months or so. I’m using them with a Dragonfly red and an Ifi Goblu and I must say they grew on me with time. I also use a pair of Focal Bathys that I’m very pleased with but I prefer the Euclids. I don’t really understand why they were discontinued and I hope Audeze builds on them.

Found them after his knows how long. I charged it and used it a few times and. The battery does extremely quickly.

Not sure if I should use DIY flair if there’s a way to break into the headphones to change the battery or use the discussion flair 🤷🏽

THANK YOU

just realized the white stuff. I think my kid smeared yogurt on it or something. 😂😂

It's taken my quite a while to truly understand what makes a pair of iems, so after being a complete noob last December, I've finally gotten the chance to get and listen to both the Hola and the Chu.

In contrast to crinacle's rankings, I do see how the Hola has a 'warmer' neutral sound, while the Chu has a bit more bass and treble on both ends of the frequency graph. For which one I'd actually prefer, I'd say it would depend on what type of song it would be.

Although, I thought that the Chu felt a little bit funnicky, even with the metal chassis and the earhooks applied, compared to the Hola. I also found that the Hola has a better seal without having to experiment with the ear tips.

But after some fiddling, the Chu sound fantastic, right next to the Hola, as I had said earlier.

I'd like some suggestions as to which iems I should try next for the upcoming holiday season.

Hi ,

Any idea why the cable on this model is a 4 pole type , apart from the screwing mechanism ? I think it would be difficult for aftermarket due to this factor.

I recently copped a pair of HD600s for mixing purposes and I’ve been reading all this stuff about needing an amp. Not very familiar with the “audiophile” world, having an interface has usually been enough for my needs prior to this point.

I have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen. I can get sufficient volume at the knob being turned to about 3/4 up and everything sounds fine, or to my expectation. The headphones also seem to sound okay through my phone, although it does feel like maybe something is lacking in terms of sonic energy.

What has me hung up though is that when I tried the headphones at the store I got them from, he initially had them plugged into a FiiO K9 Pro ESS, and it sounded really good, couldn’t believe some of the stuff I was hearing in music I’ve been listening to for years.

I then tried the FiiO K7 and it sounded significantly worse. Less clear, and as if there was less low end and less spaciousness. I trust my judgement on this and I’m fairly certain it wasn’t placebo.

I can’t really compare if my Scarlett sounds equal to, better or worse than the K7, but I feel as if it doesn’t sound as good as the k9 pro ESS.

Now I’m not made of money, and the k9 is like 1.3 grand where I live.

What I’m looking for is an accurate uncoloured representation of sound.

Do I really need to get a good preamp for my purposes or am I alright with my Scarlett?

They shipped like this, and I don’t really want to return the headset

I am curious about the size of the ears of the headphone fans. I think it has quite an impact on the size of your ears in the world of headphones. Personally I've never had a problem finding headphones.

My ears measure 72mm X 40 mm.

So, obviously with each new update to his list, some notable cheap IEM, is always on top.

Like thieaudio monarch, moondrop etc. (Mostly Chi-fi companies)

Im wondering how much these companies pay him to keep their IEM on top?

I personally think his list is a very good reference point for beginners, and I personally refer to his list as well before making a purchase.

But there are obvious places where some things don't belong, ex blessing 2 being above many kilobuck IEM's, due to tonality/technicality.

Like the 64 audio U12t being below two moondrop IEM's??

I can agree with the tonality part being subjective, but technicality?

I've listened to both the blessing 2 and other IEM's and moondrop clearly lacks on that end.

I can state many other examples, but this one is the most prevalent.

Got a pair of used ZMF Aoelus on a whim and it sent me on an upgrade frenzy.

Tube rolling has been a lot of fun but my wallet hurts.

I've seen some discussion on here about the build quality of hifiman and how its, not known for being great. I've seen mixed reviews about their stuff in general. Now, recently I got a set of first gen HE-400's. Not the 400i, or the 400se, just 400. I saw that when these launched they seemed pretty well received by the community, and overall I'm very happy with mine. The construction seems pretty nice, they feel very sturdy and given that they're already a little over 10 years old they seem to have held up just fine. I'm also very happy with the sound quality, So i'm just trying to figure out where the HE line of headphones stands. It seems like the 400i and 400se are the bottom of the range, but the 1st gen 400s actually feel and sound quite premium, and when they launched I think they retailed for about $400 in 2013 (about $530 today). Today the HE-400se's are just $109 new. So what happened?

I have a pair of DT770 80 and I've had them for maybe half a year now. What I'm wondering is that if I use an amp will it be any different from having it plugged to the mother of my PC or my phone. I've always thought that, yeah this can produce sound that is way too loud for the health of my ears so it should be fine as is, but does having an amp make any difference in the sound quality?

On an extra note is the only point of an amp driving up the volume or does it change other things too?

Hi,

I don't know if its just my imagination or can active noise-canceling actually be felt in your ears? Like I get they cancel out soundwaves but it leaves a kind of pressure behind. After some time it stresses me out more than actual noise from traffic. Is this placebo or a real thing?

It feels like when you go on a airplane and your ears close because of the altitude switch, and I get the same reflex of trying to yawn to make it go away
