Photon is nice, but is still lacking some functionality. The issue that was causing trouble to lemmy UI was also mitigated, so I don't expect more downtime caused by it.

Photon is still available at https://photon.communick.news.

After some constant issues with lemmy's default UI and its interaction with other services, I've opted add all of the most mature alternative web frontends: photon (looks like "new reddit", will be the default and also available at https://photon.communick.news), mlmym (looks like "old reddit", available at https://classic.communick.news) and voyager (looks like apollo, available at https://m.communick.news)

Later this week I hope to have a proper post-mortem. I'm still not sure what is the issue with lemmy-ui, but these changes was a good lesson in how to setup the Lemmy backend without the UI and also on how to deploy Lemmy in scenarios that are more complex than the one for self-hosters.

The image is from my Subscribed feed for this instance and another one (same subs on both).

I've also noticed things like https://feddit.nl/c/trendingcommunities having 26 posts, but https://communick.news/c/trendingcommunities@feddit.nl having zero, and https://lemmings.world/c/wwdits having newer posts than communick.news' version of it.

I don't know what happens behind the scenes, so maybe there's just some catching up to do, but was wondering if anything more fundamental was going on.

Thanks.

At the moment, only admins can create new communities. I made it so because I wanted to avoid having communick members who are not well-aware about how the fediverse works and end up creating communities that duplicate others who are already available on other servers. For those cases, it will be better if we join the remote instances instead of fragmenting the conversation among different places.

With that said, is there any topic/theme/interest/hobby you have but haven't found a place yet on the threadiverse? Is there some niche subreddit you participate but would like to migrate to Lemmy?

It seems that this server got a flood of automated users being registered. Most of these bots used gmail addresses with a long string of numbers at the end. I deleted every user that:

  • had an email address following that pattern
  • created an account on the last two days
  • had no comments or posts

If you are not a bot and got affected by that, let me know on [https://support.communick.com]

Introductions (self.meta)

I've started to see the user count picking up, so perhaps it's the time to start doing some #introduction. What type of community would you like to join?
