The JP-only PS5 model is 350USD new, the non-digital international one is 650. I kinda wonder if Sony is fine with losing the people who aren't basically captive if it means they can milk the ones who are going to buy no matter what due to price insensitivity.
~10% of consumers represent 50% of consumer spending, and as this increases, business models that fleece the wealthy and completely exclude the poor become more competitive while spending money developing a product most people want and can afford less, as "most people" can afford much less than the top end.
