Man reportedly seriously injured by the bison, described as ‘agitated’ and ‘charging anything’ by photographer An enraged, 2,000lb (900kg) bull bison hooked a tourist and tossed him 8ft into the air at a campsite in Wyoming’s Yellowstone national park on Friday – an encounter captured by a professional photographer who said the animal was “agitated, pissed off and charging anything and everything”. The tourist was reported to be seriously injured by the male bison while walking with his grandson through the Bridge Bay campground, south of Fishing Bridge.

National Park Service agrees with you on this one - they said the man and his grandson didn't do anything wrong, it was just bad luck and an agitated bull.

I’m surprised the National Park Service said that. When I visited the Canadian Rockies years ago I clearly recall seeing signs that showed how far, in terms of school bus lengths, to stay away from wildlife. The signs were easy to understand even if you didn’t speak or read English.

For smaller wildlife it was just one or two school bus lengths. For things like foxes & coyotes I think it was closer to 5. For bear, caribou, moose, etc. it was 10+. I’d personally lump bison/buffalo into that 10+ category as well, and I don’t think those two were any where near that far away..
