Just blocked lemmy.ml from my Lemmy account, and I swear to god it's one of the best things I've ever done on this platform. My homepage feels actually clean now.

For the past few months I'd been seeing a lot of tankie posting and pretty much far-left propaganda on my feed. It got tiring enough that I finally checked my blocked-user list, and realized pretty much everyone I'd blocked was from lemmy.ml. So I just blocked the whole instance instead.

Saying this as someone who considers themselves a leftist: I used to think Lemmy itself was an echo chamber. Turns out lemmy.ml was the problem the entire time. Probably the reason I tolerated it for so long is that I agreed with a lot of what they posted, but like an oversaturated meme, I'd had enough. Browsing the platform was starting to feel way too tiring instead of fun, which defeats the point of being here in the first place.

The breaking point was seeing some dude post a "meme" implying North Korea and China are basically communist utopias and that the West sucks. I mean, the West does suck, but come on - you're saying North Korea is the ideal the West should strive for? What the hell...

None of that is far left you numpty.

The only thing remotely leftist in what you said is capitalism bad. Which we have ample evidence for how and why unregulated/deregulated capitalism is bad for anyone that doesnt own a personal yacht

You're right about the capitalism bad part, but comunism good isn't generally a leftist talking point.

Well, if these aren't far left, they sure aren't leftist because i haven't ever seen anybody in the left repeat these points.

Somebody else in this thread suggested this idea as well, that perhaps their points shoudn't be though of as leftist or far-leftist, but as something else...

A great part main of mainstream leftists don't recognize communism as a better system than capitalism - it's the the reason social democrats are the majority of leftists in europe and the americas

I asked you what you believe a leftist is, because in my view the left begins at anti-capitalism to begin with. Maintaining capitalism and imperialism is not a progressive stance, it is holding us back from future progress. Social Democrats in Europe maintain their cushy welfare states alongside immensely wealthy capitalists because they rely on exploiting the global south heavily. There is no way to have both a large welfare state and a dominant, healthy capitalist class without plundering it from somewhere, and that somwhere is the global south. Thus, considering European Social Democrats to be on the "left" is an absurdity to me.

É possivel que ele tenha falado isso pra se aproximar da direita, o que é uma estrategia que o PT está adotando nos ultimos anos

É por todo mundo que não é esquerda.

O social democrata é só a esquerda do conversador, a social democracia está dentro do liberalismo econômico/neoliberalismo e não se opõe a ele, é uma forma de reforma somente.

The biggest leftwing party in the world is the Communist Party of China. I have a feeling they would say that communism is good.
