This has me torn. On the one hand 8k a year just to have a vacation sounds a lot. On the other hand, should we really be accepting concessions on our lives when we know the main reason we need to do monetary concessions is because the fruits of our labor get siphoned from us?

Maybe I'm just too poor to comprehend that 8k vacations should be the norm. Or maybe 8k is too much.

you should buy stock and not go on vacation and then in 10 years you can go on all the vacations you want.

delayed gratification is a hell of a way to build wealth.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So you read my comment and thought it would be good advice to tell me to do the very thing that siphons money away from the workers?

I don't want to build wealth, I want to live a fulfilling life and I want everyone else to live a fulfilling life. My fulfillment shouldn't come at the expense of others.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

yeah, dude keep refusing to help yourself and then wonder why in 10 years you're still struggling...

newsflash, you can't built a fulfilling life without wealth. and you can't build other people's lives for them.

and guess what, your very existence comes at the expense of ever blade of grass you've stepped on, every chicken you ate, and etc. that's what life itself is. your little philosophy here basically concludes with 'kill yourself' but that too... will come at the expense of others.

but sure, sit around and don't invest and daydream for the next decade and in 10 years you will still have nothing.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd rather struggle and have empathy for my fellow worker than be like you who thinks we should be ripping off the poor people.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

OK, be poor and miserable forever then. good luck with that. and blame everyone else for your own personal choices where you actively refuse to invest in yourself. sitting around feeling your feelings isn't going to improve your life.

those of us who invested will be going on our 8K vacations and living in our houses that we own. and you can scream on the internet how we stole shit from you, or something and how we're awful people.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

First of all, I'm not poor. I come from a poor family but I was blessed with a sharp mind and I've been lucky enough that my hard work has given me a rather good life. Due to my life experience I'm acutely aware of not just how incredibly privileged my life is but also how there are people who start from an even worse position than me and will never get to experience a life where they don't have to worry about whether they can afford to eat, pay rent (let alone own a house) and have clothes on their back. So yeah, excuse me for both having enough empathy to understand the struggles of others and enough privilege to not perpetuate it.

As for awful people, if there's a beggar on the street shifting through trash to find recyclable bottles or anything to make money and someone comes and takes some of their money would you not consider that kind of a person awful? And yet that's what investors do, not with just the poor but with everyone who works for a living. Every cent you make from stocks is a cent you take out of the pocket of someone significantly poorer than you.

I'm not going to tell you stop investing. You want a lavish lifestyle that's how you get a lavish lifestyle. All I'm doing is pointing out that your vanity comes from robbing the poorest of us. If you don't like being called an awful person maybe don't do awful things?

so you're privledged, but you want to like what, cosplay as poor and oppressed online because it makes you feel superior about yourself or something?

gee... that's not like the entire fucking issue with most leftist politics... and why the legit working-class/poor folks hate leftism so much... because the majority of folks in the movement are champagne socialists such as yourself.

just like all the celebrities talking about how they are suffering too during the pandemic... in their 20 million dollar mansions.

God the insane hypocrisy you are arguing from is just... mind blowing.

You are the same as me, but when I do it, I'm a horrible asshole, and when you do it, it's wonderful and good. And then you wonder why you can't build any 'solidarity' for your beliefs. BECAUSE YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE.

and yeah I'm clearly destroying society by returning my bottles and cans and STEALING the 1 dollar month in bottle deposits form some hardworking homeless guy... lol what.

dude, if you want to make the world a better place, actaully do it and stop consuming shit content online and deluding yourself into thinking your some hero of the oppressed. You are as about as heroic as Hasan is.

Jesus are you dense or what.

so you’re privledged, but you want to like what, cosplay as poor and oppressed online because it makes you feel superior about yourself or something?

Clearly you haven't been poor enough to what a privilege it is to be able to afford a house, food on the table, clothes on your back and some entertainment without having to compromise between them. In that sense I am privileged. I'm just not 8k vacation every year privileged like you.

gee… that’s not like the entire fucking issue with most leftist politics… and why the legit working-class/poor folks hate leftism so much… because the majority of folks in the movement are champagne socialists such as yourself.

just like all the celebrities talking about how they are suffering too during the pandemic… in their 20 million dollar mansions.

God the insane hypocrisy you are arguing from is just… mind blowing.

Legit working-class/poor folk hate leftism because they've been conditioned to believe leftism is bad and they don't have the time to learn what leftism actually is. When you explain them leftist policies they will almost always be in favor of those. And your framing of champagne socialist is one from capitalism that tries to undermine leftism by implying leftism does not allow wealth, which isn't universally true. If through your own labor you're able to afford a house, fancy clothes, fancy car or champagne then that does not contradict something like Marxism. But we're getting into the theory of something you don't know and don't care about.

You are the same as me, but when I do it, I’m a horrible asshole, and when you do it, it’s wonderful and good. And then you wonder why you can’t build any ‘solidarity’ for your beliefs. BECAUSE YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE.

We are not the same because what "wealth" I've amassed I've done so almost exclusively through my own labor. I've let money "go to waste" because I decided to keep it in my bank account instead of throwing it all into investment funds that would've almost tripled it in value because I know where that value comes from. Not in a million year would I seriously tell someone to rob from the poor like you have. And while I was blunt I didn't treat you like some horrible asshole until you decided to defend robbing the poor. Instead of calling me names just own up what you are.

and yeah I’m clearly destroying society by returning my bottles and cans and STEALING the 1 dollar month in bottle deposits form some hardworking homeless guy… lol what.

So apparently analogies go beyond your level of comprehension, I guess that should be expected.

dude, if you want to make the world a better place, actaully do it and stop consuming shit content online and deluding yourself into thinking your some hero of the oppressed. You are as about as heroic as Hasan is.

I'm not some hero of the oppressed. Me showing some spine and sticking to my moral code doesn't make a hero, except in your eyes. So you calling me a hero for that says more about you than it does about me.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

Right, everyone other than you had it worse, you are the only person who has ever know what it's like to be poor.

I don't take 8K vacations. I don't take vacations at all.

And then you re-iterate every leftist bullshit tlaking about about how we just need to 're-edcuate' the working classes... we must liberate them from themselves because they are so oppresssed...

and you wonder why they hate people like you, and why they don't support your policies... because you treat them like sub human scum and you think they must be 'elevated' to your glorious genius.

You don't have a moral code. You have a moral superiority complex whereby anyone who doesn't agree with you is less than you and must be 'fixed'.

you are every bad stereotype about leftism, especial your inability to see how awful and downright totalitarian what you are insisting is 'right' is. I bet you also are really mad about Nazis, and think we should mass murder anyone who is right wing because anyone who is to the right of you is a Nazi... and you don't at all see how this makes you a nazi yourself. We just need to kill the bad people and stick the oppressed people in camps to liberate them from their 'wrong think' and make sure they 'right think' like you do.

also buddy, my wealth is also massed from my own labor... i just chose to stick in it in the bank rather than spend it.

But keep going back with the 'no, but u' responses. Classic armchair socialist hypocritical bullshit you are slinging here, but hey what do I know, I'm an evil oppressor who is morally bankrupt and murders babies by having a 401K or something. lol

Next is the step where you tell me I have to cleanse myself of my oppression by giving my money to you so you can use it to fight for your moral vision of a fair and equitable future...

why don't I go donate to Hasan right now, give him $20 so that he can buy another Gucci bag while he waits for his multi-million dollar inheritance from his folks, because you know he needs that money more than I do and he certainly needs it more than some idiot uneducated working class person.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 0 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

This shit flinging is nice and all but it's not getting us anywhere. How about this, you make your case how investing doesn't make you an awful person and if you make a solid case I'll say I was wrong.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

That's easy, you argue with your conclusion in your premise.

It's called begging the question, and it's bad faith way to interact with people. It's trolling.

and this entire exchange is you being bad faith, because well, you believe in hyperbolic nonsense that has no basis in reality, and is nothing more than a weird fetishization you have that investment is inherently evil. And just because you believe something, doesn't mean it is true.

investment is how society exists man, it's how any of us do anything together, but I would wager you also think society is inherently evil.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 1 points 2 hours ago

So you argument is 3 paragraphs of nonsense followed by a single sentence argument? But I'll address your low effort just as succinctly.

investment is how society exists man, it’s how any of us do anything together, but I would wager you also think society is inherently evil.

So before investing became a thing society didn't exist?
