Quite a few thoughts here as a Celtic fan.
Please indulge my efforts to be objective here.
Jaylen Brown is best utilized as an off ball weapon, and has potential to be one of the best off ball scoring threats in the NBA. The off ball movement tonight is his greatest strength. He doesn't utilize it enough. When the ball is in his hands, I want to see A LOT more slashing, coming off screens, and far less iso dribbling.
Celtics controlled this game and had no business letting it get close as it did. Regular season doesn't matter, or, whatever. But this is a rival. It's important to practice good habits, and the intensity faded in the second half, and showed up as needed.
Finally. Dame Lilliard. Anyone else not surprised that Lilliard got hot when the game was nearly out of reach? He was virtually non-existent all game, and the reason for that, imo, is that he just isn't an effective off ball player. Between his defensive liability, and his inability to be an effective 2nd option off ball, his 27 tonight just felt so impactful.
Milwaukee has championship pedigree, and has the second best player in the world. They can get hot. Man, do they have size.
But Lilliard? I just don't think he's a good fit, and whatever amount of needle he moves could be replaced with any all star level offensive player without losing impact.
Dame just isn't good enough to be a #1 and his style of players isn't fitting for a #2.
Giannis can win a series on his own, and they're contenders.
But their 1-2 punch is a terrible fit. They feel outclassed by Boston.
