You can start by becoming a software consultant. And take projects you would like to work on. This way you will learn all little things like law, corporate taxes, unfair clients, sales and marketing. Slowly, you will develop the business mindset and skills.
I am following something similar for last 3 years. I didn't had any major success but I also didn't had too many dry days. My annual income and growth has been similar to what I could have gotten in a job. But I am running my own business. And slowly working on build my business skills.
The benefit with this approach is I can sustain my efforts for many decades to come and with a simple 20% annual growth I can make it big by my 70s. As there is not much stress, I can be a good father and a loving husband. And hopefully my children can continue from where I leave the journey.
If you continue in you job, you will get bored soon. And your children will again have to start from the junior developer position when they join work. And if you go into a vc backed start ups, you will have to make many long term sacrifices.
