Just tried itch version on void linux, and no, it's not that easy.

Itch "installs" a 7zip archive which you have to unpack yourself.

Then you have to provide 32bit libraries as its binary is 32 bit.

Then you have to set up pipewire or pulse or whatever to emulate alsa which the game requires (might work out of the box on some systems)

Steam version mitigates those issues by using their own runtimes it think. It should be possible running the itch version using a steam runtime though.

Sounds like choosing the Windows version and running that through Proton is easier.
