Nice and patient? No, no patience, but a realization that change isn't instant. Decades.. It can take decades.
Sometimes even things get ugly.
Like when my friends and I got the shit kicked out of us by Billy Bulgers fag-bashing Boston police in 1988. (ActUp was a riot.) Or when I marched with hundreds of thousands of other people on Washington DC for reproductive rights..
And sometimes you have to make chages in your own life choices. Such as when I quit the cable TV in 1999 as a permanent boycott of corporate media, and decided to not own a house or have kids, chose to keep my income under 30k a year so as to minimize my tax liability to a corrupt governent, lived without medical insurance my entire adult life, (surprise! I'm not a Canadian!) and decided to also refuse to buy anything new (other than underwear) for the last, oh.. 35+ years..
Shit.. You think that I'm using a computer right now that was anything other than a dumpster dive, thrown away by kids that have to have the newest, fanciest kit? (It really is a dumpster dive machine..)
The greed and avarice are ENTIRELY human nature, hardwired into our skulls by thousands of years of selective adaptation that put the most resources (ostensibly for breeding with the best partners and rearing children successfully) into the hands of those with the greatest drive to get them. The weak get pushed aside. This is Primate 101 behavior manifest into an economic model called capitalism. The past few decades it's been gutted of regualtory constraints, and is in full lassiez-faire mode, which is where we find ourselves now. Anything goes! And it does.
So.. what choices will you make.. how are YOU going to undermine the dominant paradigm of a consumerist, conformist, capitalist society that is incapable of addressing it's current societal injustice and indolently refuses to wear it's own history?
