We got some reports/comments looking for context, so I went looking. So far there is this article: https://therover.ca/montreal-police-stand-back-while-man-assaults-photographer/

There is an open investigation and the person's identity is known to the police:

It was only after a video of the incident went viral two days later that Montreal police confirmed it was opening a hate crime investigation.

Police took the assailant’s identification and let him go. Montreal police did not immediately comment on the assault, but one police source says it’s not uncommon, in situations like these, for police to take down information first and make an arrest at a later date.

Please keep our guidelines in mind when commenting. You're free to share your frustrations/feelings about this situation, but please take a moment to see if there is a better way to word what you are trying to say: https://fedecan.ca/en/guidelines/

In the absence of any formal investigation, online vigilantes believe they have found the suspect’s real identity. They linked his photo to social media accounts and a blog with headlines like “CONFRONTATION WITH ISLAMO-NAZI/NON-BINARY BARBARIANS IN MONTREAL” and “ORPHAN JEWS WESTERN CIVILIZATION UNDER SIEGE.”

The Rover was not able to reach the suspect for comment and therefore will not publish his name. But a search of his name in Quebec’s court database found criminal convictions for armed robbery, drug trafficking and assault among other crimes.

Pretty easy to find his substack by googling the titles too...

Call them all Nazis. Then proceeds to admitting to murdering innocent people based on their race because he believes he's part of the master race.

We have hate speech laws here. Book ‘im Danno.

[–] AGM@lemmy.ca 53 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hate speech is the least of his crimes if his words are true. He should be on trial for what he claims to have done.

Imagine thinking killing vulnerable people makes you strong

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Depends what you mean by vulnerable, for example setting up a claymore in a Nazis toilet so they quite literally get ass blasted is technically killing someone at their most vulnerable. Not necessarily strong but not weak either. Though I'm being an asshole pedant right now and I fully get what you mean is disadvantaged and undefended populations and/or individuals.

I wish to give Israel the Serbia treatment.

Low key the most fucked up part of this is that he's either recording or streaming the interaction himself, as though HE'S the fucking protagonist.

These people are pure sociopaths.

[–] AGM@lemmy.ca 34 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Put him on trial. Prepare the gallows for if his words are true. Should be that simple. Precedents from Nuremberg, Dachau, Krakow etc.

[–] GrackleBirb@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

We don’t have the death penalty in Canada nor should we be calling for anyone to be put to death for being a loudmouth asshole who is likely full of shit on the street. That’s a slippery slope. Is everyone in here like 14?

We have other punishments for harassment and hopefully someone called the cops on him.

[–] AGM@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I called for a trial to assess if his words are true, and yes, I would be okay with capital punishment for enthusiastic participation in genocide. Was Nuremberg a slippery slope?

You seem to be rushing not to take him at his word, to the extent that he shouldn't even be investigated for it and should just be charged with harassment, even though there's an active genocide going on and it's entirely plausible that he has murdered numerous innocent people as a participant, and he is claiming that he has.

The harassment is obvious, but it's trivial compared to what he claims to have done. What he claims to have done should be investigated. If true, he should face the consequences of those choices.

Fine if you disagree about capital punishment for crimes against humanity like mass murder and genocide, but there's nothing civilized about seeing a Nazi on the street saying he's killed many people in the camps and plans to kill more and just saying "He should really be more polite. We have rules about that."

If he's just a loudmouth, fine, but at least investigate his claims and prevent him from killing more people if his claims are true, whether it's by capital punishment or by long-term imprisonment.

[–] loonsun@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

From the looks of it, this is happening just outside city hall in the old port. That is a very tourist area, so I do wonder if this person is from put of town or not.

[–] Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Whether out of town or not, he should be put in jail for hate speech and then investigated further if he should be forwarded to the Hague.

It is the first thing the man says. "I am a Yahudi, I am a Zionist".

Yahudi means Jew in Arabic.

Need some context. When was this? Has the SPVM been involved?

Edit: I realize that the "we need more context" phrase is often used to let assholes (esp cops) off the hook. But that's not what I'm trying to do, quite the opposite. I'm asking for more information about the interaction, like when was this (yesterdaty, this year, last year?), what's the source (is it OP?), what happened after, do we know who the self-proclaimed multi-murderer is, has anyone pressed charges, has the incident being reported by any news organization, etc.

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I fking killed a lot of motherfkers like you... I'm going back to do more.

Need some context.

Do we, though?
