I would've said it was long gone settled that any memory gets 'contaminated' by the local intrinsic/extrinsic environment we are in. In other words; we always tweak all memories every time we 'read' them.

To my knowledge there is no 'static' memory anywhere in our dynamic brain, and that knowledge have just been updated.
