I host a Nextcloud instance. Tbh Nextcloud runs like crap but it works fine for my one-user use case. As someone else under this post says, it tries to do everything and does everything badly. I would've probably chosen something more lightweight and written in something other than PHP if I were doing my self-hosting setup from scratch. But you can always self-host; if privacy and digital sovereignty is your concern, you can't beat self-hosting.
