If you want a private desktop OS you either use a debloated Windows which can break, or Linux but it's not always easy to use, but I've never heard of anyone use a de-googled Chrome OS, smth like Graphene OS but for desktops. I've actually never used Chrome OS but to my knowledge it's open-source, easy to use and can already run Android apps making it a strong option

None of the chromebooks are have open bootloaders though?

A ton of them are supported by coreboot. I dont know if this is an individual or a community but here is where you starr to free your chrome device:

Idk if they have open bootloader, but by my post I meant installing Chrome OS on a device that isn't necessarily a Chromebook, smth that has Windows MacOS or Linux pre-installed
