But isn't ChromeOS == Chromium OS? Or am I missing smth?
Chromium is FOSS that anyone can use and build upon but, primarily built by google themselves. Chrome is proprietary software that is owned by google.
To the best of my knowledge, that already exists and is called Chromium OS.
None of the chromebooks are have open bootloaders though?
A ton of them are supported by coreboot. I dont know if this is an individual or a community but here is where you starr to free your chrome device:
Idk if they have open bootloader, but by my post I meant installing Chrome OS on a device that isn't necessarily a Chromebook, smth that has Windows MacOS or Linux pre-installed
Chrome OS is based in Gentoo , maybe this distro is what you are looking for. In the end is a distro like many others but it was modified by google
ChromeOS is also Android basically, no?
So.. GrapheneOS in desktop mode. I don't know the details, but there's that I think. Kinda just hook up the phone to a dock with a monitor. Great option, more secure than linux.
You can try a regular linux distro with gnome. It's a normal OS nowadays. I don't see anything more or less complicated. Windows is more overwhelming imo with all the bloat you have to remove with some scripts downloaded off some russian forum, and all the settings within settings..
