Under what jurisdictional authority can NCIS operate in Australia? Smells like bullshit rather than the verisimilitude I’m so used to in CBS procedural

The US military famously doesn't operate in other countries! Real talk though from Wiki:Although the show is set in Sydney, the closest real-life NCIS field office in Australia is actually located in Perth, which is 3,290 km (2,040 mi) away.
