Trump has spent much of his second term flouting the longtime convention of U.S. administrations avoiding direct involvement in other countries’ elections.

This must be written by AI.

When has the US not interfered in other countries elections?

That's been a significant part of the CIA's operations since the agency was created.

This stuff is so ingrained now they don’t even need commissars in the media organisations.

Why?

I see this comment on basically every news article these days. The sentence you quoted is bog standard journalistic style.

the longtime convention of U.S. administrations avoiding direct involvement in other countries’ elections.

When has the US ever not interfered in the elections of other countries? Nothing but AI could be that delusional. Trump is flouting some conventions but in this regard, there is nothing to flout.

Dunno why you are getting down votes. The US has been interfering in other countries elections since AT LEAST World War 2.

I think you underestimate how delusional humans are. Also, the point here is direct involvement, usually they're more subtle.

subtle: like kidnapping and murdering leaders of other countries?
