Rules:
1. Be civil

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I didn't know Pentium shared the same socket.
They kinda do, if you put in the effort.
my guess is that he used heat gun, thermal pastes, and cleanly succeasfully swapped 40 PCs with matching parts without damaging any. This guy is a repair technician not customs supervisor
The Pentium became Intel's budget processor when the Core architecture came out. When the i7s, i5s, and i3s are tested and binned, the dies that are still fully functional but didn't quite muster i3 levels (only 1 or 2 cores work, some of the cache is defective, only works at lower power levels/clock speeds, etc) are binned as Pentiums.
The leftovers that aren't completely scrap are stamped as Celerons and Atoms.
I've grossly oversimplified it, but that's the general idea.

I still remember being soooooo fucking excited to see the next big step from a 486. I think we had a 486SX back when Pentium was current. I vaguely recall the Pentium chip being almost more like a cartridge in it's form-factor but i could be way off. Old school computing days were the best 💖
Pentium II introduced the cartridge, then for the P2 celerons they went back to socket 370. P3 offered both slot and socket CPUs.

And if you had a CPU for a socket but a board with a slot, you used a slocket adapter!
Yikes, that was around the time I knew the Amiga was a dead end and reluctantly bought a 100MHz Pentium outfit. The speed, memory, and resolution was far above anything I did with my Amiga 3000 but it wasn't as much fun. Wow that was a long time ago.
I'm so jelly you had an Amiga!! I only recently realized it was a Commodore! We loved Commodore computing back in the day. The blue screen where you'd type the commands was strangely serene (or maybe that's just my rose-colored glasses, lol)
Fun fact you can buy new production commodore 64s with mild modernizations.
They aren't Commodore 64s, they're FPGAs wrapped in a 64 styled box.
Legit didn't know and don't know what an FPGA is, just knew that someone resurrected the commodore brand and started to output shit. Also I kinda want their Linux flip phone.

They're certainly fun! Pricy for what amounts to a few existing community projects in a "new original mould" case but very easy to set up on modern TVs and 99% compatible with old hardware and software. Even internet capable with the right cart images to play on the BBSs that are still around.

Few things are worse than Weird Al songs stuck in your head. He's great and I actually listen to the words of his song. Don't a lot of the time just hear the melody but Al is funny. Just recently watched the Simpsons with him singing, was an amusing random watch. He helped me understand satire better, though always a fan of cheesy satire from Mel Brooks, National Lampoons and of course UHF. For movies I'll also add, Spaceballs (Men in Tights, but never fully watched Blazing Saddles outside of bits which is by all accounts awesome), loaded weapon one and well Mr Als UHF in case people wanted something less than serious to watch sometime. In the vein of 'cant rain all the time'(Original Crow movie), can't always be serious and just need a funny one. Though I do know the humour isn't for all.
A friend recently went to a Weird Al concert and said he was very energetic the entire time. I'm jealous... I didn't even know he was touring.
Blazing Saddles is a hilarious satire on racism. You should absolutely watch it.
They have to be talking about the Pentium Gold line, G7400 and such. It does sound silly though.
They've always been the same socket/silicon for the past 15-20 years. Just far FAR inferiorsince they're clocked down and don't have the full cache.
