Sorry but I’m on their side. No private mapping supplier should be able to decide what things are called. Countries publicize official names of things and the private company should always use that. No matter how wrong it is
Congress gets to decide that, not the executive. Ignoring Trump tantrums is following the law.
The national whatever for place names calls it Lake America. That's the official source of data; neither Congress nor the president needs to be involved every single time a place is named (though this time the president decided to be because the president is a moron).
I don’t know what the law is but there must be an official database of names, and third parties need to follow that. They probably are
Unless there is evidence otherwise, these third parties are doing the right thing.
By all means, object to capricious or illegal name changes. I’m just saying the problem is all in the politics
