Okay, so we know at this point that the players that fans actually want to see in the dunk contest usually don't do it because they're afraid of tarnishing their reputation if they miss their dunks or lose to a bench player.

So what we're usually left with is a small pool of 4-5 players that fans have never heard of, who usually still take 3-4 attempts to make a dunk.

My proposal is to not even include nba players in the dunk contest anymore. Open it up to all the YouTube dunkers that do this shit for a living.

At the end of the day, we just wanna see good dunks made on the first attempt. So why wouldn't we have Jordan kilganon and these other dunkers come and just put on a show? Gives them exposure on a national stage. Nba players can just sit back and enjoy knowing they don't have to be out there getting embarrassed. And the fans get probably the best dunk contest in years. Win for everyone.

It all went really down hill the year Blake won imho. DeRozan was very clearly the best dunker that year, but the NBA had decided before that Blake was winning regardless. Even tho it was in LA and DeRozan is an actual LA legend unlike Blake. The guy rolls out a stupid car and a choir and doesn't even really jump over it and beats Deebo who was actually doing insane athletic shit. It became so clear that day that the soul of what the dunk contest was supposed to be about was dead.
